If your camera has a crop sensor , 50mm focal length will be equivalent to 50mm* 1.6 = 80mm

so indoor lo ekkuva potrait shots ki use avutundhi...

generally 50mm, 85mm are potrait lens

17-55mm f/2 wide angle + potrait cover cheyyochu...kani same sharpness radhu prime lens laa

nenu photography start chesina kotha lo crop sensor camera + 85mm f/1.2 ii USM lens tho teesina pic idhi

ya chadiva ippude.. prime less lo less distortions , more sharp antunaru..

more an dmore I am reading I am more inclined towards either 50mm or 85 mm prime lens with 1.8 aperture..use that only for my portraits and use my current lens for landscapes...

Seinfeld:

D7000 is DX (crop frame) camera. so, focal length increases 1.5 times when you pick any lens.

Portraits ki higher focal length kaavali... anything above 50mm should be fine. You can go for 70-200mm, so it can used as tele lens or buy a 85mm fixed. As for aperture, 3.5 is enough for variable or 2.8 for fixed.

Here are some prime lenses:
Nikkor 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 (there only $250 difference)
Nikkor 85mm 1.8
Nikkor 105mm 1.8
They get expensive as you go up in focal length.

Or, you can pick tele zoom lens that covers this range like:
nikkor 70-300mm
If you want f2.8 with above lens, it is very expensive ($2000)

zoom lens vs prime lens

zoom lens lo different focal lenghts untayi...prime lo okate untundi...you can adjust to the required focal length by moving a bit distance. photo teeseppudu konchem pedha focal length kavalante meerunna place nundi konchem back or front jarigithe chaalu pedha difference undadu...prime lens lo image stability, sharpness, focus and depth of field etc are better compared to zoomlens.
but mee budget ki atu itu ga unte take a better one...difference chaala unte matram your choice

Naadi canon camera..got some knowledge around it.
Canon 5D ,6D Fullframe cameras(expensive too)..Migata dslrs anni cropped frame.
Zoom 1*1.5 esukovali.. 50 mm lens on fullframe will be 75mm cropped sensor. Wide angle photos ( for Landscapes) with cropped sensor sarigga ravu as you neeed really really wide angle lens to get mere 28mm..
And moreover..Canon lo ithey Cropped sensor cameras ki vaadey lens (EF-S) full frame ki vaadalemu.

for landscape you would have already got 18-55 or 18-105 lens...this is enough..
sincr your camera is DX means cropped sensor
go for
1. Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G perfect portrait in nikon

2. Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G AF-S ED VR II...this is also widely used and excellent lens

prefer telephoto lenses for portrait..
if you are searching for other options keep in mind that your camera is APS-C
