Amazon collects sales tax on its owned inventory in all 45 states that have a state sales tax. 'Its own inventory' is the key word. If he is talking about the third parties that sell (which is less than 50% of Amazon's business) through Amazon, thats different. If your 1985 president wants Amazon to collect taxes on behalf of these third parties (which is an old issue that some retailers dont charge taxes), that favors Amazon as that will make these other products be costlier than Amazon's own inventory products and make them even more beneficial.
Why should Amazon think about USPS if they will not get the necessary SLA's and cost savings through USPS. Amazon used USPS (and still uses among others) but if the arrangement doesnt meet their customer needs, they should be free to build their own logistics arrangements. Again Why should govt poke their head into these things and tell businesses how to run their business. If the USPS heavy engine doesnt meet the needs of the ciitizens and is wasting tax money, there are other ways to take care of those. Dont forcefully rub these non value add services (in today's world) on corporates and citizens. | ||

you are talking about 2 different things. just answer these 2 questions 1) why were not sales tax collected from amazon and other internet sites at the start? how are they different from B&M stores? is that a policy oversight? 2) since amazon runs primarily on USPS for deliveries back in the day, they could have bargained better? why we care usps since it is govt agency. its debts are people debts. you and me. our tax money goes there eventually. it is a retrospective discussion. if USPS knows what it knows today back then, they would have asked for more price. | ||

Where do you draw the line? Do you want to stop hotel chains from expanding so that the Motel6's can survive and make money? Do you want to stop netflix like companies so the local DVD/VHS shops can survive? Why did we allow retails (brick and mortar) to expand if the local retail store's can sell clothes etc? Where is the principle here? Where do you draw the line? USPS lost money for the past 15 years even before Amazon was relevant Brick and Mortar is not the way to make money anymore. If not Amazon, then it is something else. There are companies that got shutdown and are making more money becuase of Amazon and ebay models with much less capital than before. This president from 1985 doesnt get it. And people like you do tana tandana. Ask Trump to make his Trump caps using these mom and pops and not in China. While you are at it, tell him, he needs to display the country of manufacture on his stuff. it is illegal otherwise | ||

labor laws are to protect employees from exploitation by employers and protecting the rights of the workers (by providing good working conditions and pay enough salaries). Min wage discussion has nothing to do with Amazon's way of doing business.  | ||

Amazon is the second largest employer in US (after Walmart). Half a million employees added (most of them in the last 10 years). This doesnt show the millions of business that were formed and flourishing due to Amazon. This president from 1985 still thinks mom and pops are being crucified by Amazon. This is the same discussion that happened with Walmart since (several decades). Corp orates go out of business because they dont adopt. Its BS that Amazon is making USPS go out of business. Most of the times , nothing is wrong if it is consistent. That is principle alignment. If President trump feels any corporation that gets undue advantage from existing circumstances 'legally' need to be regulated, his thought process is correct . Trump has valid points when it comes to taxes. Amazon doesn't pay taxes in some states or unevenly pays taxes among states. Regarding Postal service, I don't think, Trump has a valid point as Amazon is paying market rate for USPS with whatever discounts they provide for bulk mailing. If USPS has think margins, it is their own business model and Amazon has nothing to do with it. Regarding Monopoly, I agree Amazon is becoming behemoth (it already is) and threatening lot of businesses. Trump is NOT totally wrong in his allegations. | ||
