On FDI, the Govt. has opened the doors in a never before manner by increasing the FDI limit even in sectors like Defense. But one single low key decision spoilt the reputation! Nestle's Maggi Noodles was banned twice - after Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Noodles was launched! The BJP supporters may give n number of arguments that Nestle noodles contained poisonous substances, Nestle is a dangerous company...blah blah blah... But the signal went loud and clear - the Govt is willing to go to any extent for Baba Ramdev and company! | ||

Renaming is fine, as long as something that is working is continued with a few positive changes. I am referring to the scrapping of the Planning commission and the watering down of Institutes like Information commission, Lokpal etc. These are strong institutions built over a period of time and they required some improvements in the way or working. However they have been made redundant. | ||

Biggest miss of the Govt. Writing off corporate loans. The write offs were used to clean up the balance sheets and very little was done in terms of employment generating investment. | ||

There were a few hits, but the misses completely over shadow the hits ! It is very easy to comment in hind sight, but if the Govt had reduced the retail fuel prices, the story may have been different. And to make matters worse, hundreds of thousands of MNREGA job cards were cancelled. A part of these savings were indeed channelled into Infra works. But too little. Media and Advertising sector did very well and generated jobs...But again too little to have a positive effect. And then the huge pre election promises notable among them.... 1.Abolish Income Tax 2. 1 INR = 1 USD Lessons learnt Good governance does not mean overhauling of the old policies Good governance is about listening to the people and carrying all sections of the people along. Hope NDA 3 will learn from the mistakes and stop this ugly focus on Beef, Hindi, Jeans, Kissing etc. |
