Singing is beautiful and so is the mix of styles ...kudos to Ushagaru and the musicians ! One suggestion : I tend to focus heavily on lyrical content and soona is a very touching lyric - I felt that the composition and style was too cheerful/energetic for lyrics talking about a yearning - so I missed the feel that is in the original ! Sonu Nigam di kooda recorded version; mix chesindi kooda Shadab ani telugu sound engineer/programmer. He sang the song in a concert live and did so by slowing down the tempo considerably. Our original plan was to do soona soona as is (Sonu's version) and Usha completed the recording. However, at the suggestion of Phani Narayana Garu (who did the arrangement), we felt that instead of copying to the T, its better to present soona with a Carnatic thillana to bring out the best of both - gamakams in Hindustani and Carnatic. Thus came the fusion idea. While I acknowledge that matching Sonu is difficult, am happy that Usha made such an attempt. FYI, Usha isn't trained in Carnatic or Hindustani one bit. Firstly I am glad that Usha garu took the YouTube route like Karunya, Much required for the talent these singers possess, they should do it often. Some how or other to tell people they are still in the game. Good initiative.. The original by Sonu is unique due to the so many variations and super fast gamakas,, Thats an unmatched version, The speed at which the song goes along with variations makes it complex.. On top I guess Sonu Nigam sang it live. That shows the capability of the singer. However I heard Rashid Ali version who also gave a cover for that song. Usha garu made this version very simpler and lighter probably to match the fusion I believe. Whenever a good song is got into fusion version, I always am little bit nervous on how one can without ruining the original flavor can do the fusion. I see in this the focus was more on carnatic flavor than Hindustani.. Jugalbandi type aithe baaga workout ayyedemo. The song was also made simpler, Gamakas inkaa padi unte bagundi as original has complex gamakas.. The ending lo western flavor could have been better anipinchindi mainly @3:52..Carnatic portion/thillana came out very good.. Excellent singing Usha gaaru , I enjoyed it a lot. Kudos to her singing skill, paadutha teeyaga days gurthochai naaku. Nice flow of the voice. Video definitely could have been better. Pardon me but hair do kooda suit kaaledhu anipinchindi. | ||
