Polavaram achieves the water distribution through gravity - pattiseema or purshothapatam are Lift irrigation and cost electricity. So there is clear difference in economics. That said, I agree that on paper it is evident that both these lift irrigation projects that are interim are good to meet the requirements for the given rain fall in last two years in those areas. There was no way polavaram would have been completed in these years and providing water was crucial for the needs. There was no way water would have been possible through Nagarjuna sagar too since the reservoir levels are an indication. | ||

Your statement of "Polavaram 1000 times more than Pattiseema" is totally baseless and foul cry. ... just go to basic facts Polavaram Reservior capacity is 194 TMC. With pattiseema this year AP Govt saved by lifting 100 TMC, And with Purshottpatnam planning to lift another 10 to 20TMC for Vizag city, steel plant and EG Dist Uplands, this comes around 120 TMC, which is half of Polavram in saving flood water and stabilizing irrigation in 15 lakh acres agriculture land. The overall 'AGRI Yeild' effectiveness that Pattiseema Lift brought is 1/4 of Polavaram. It's not 1/1000 as you claim. Polavarm doesn't need power to operate whereas Pattiseema need power to lift. Besides above Irrigation benefits, 960 MW power generation by Polavaram during flood season is big boon to state. But planning something simply based on Hydro power generation forecast in our country is risky. Though Hydro power generation is big benefit and at the same time it brings huge Rehab/Env issues for flooding areas due to Reservoir. However these lift stations are to be operated every year during the dry season to draw water from the substantial dead storage available behind the flood gates of the Polavaram dam. So these lift schemes are not for few years operation till the Polavaram dam is constructed but for permanent operation regularly for at least four months in every year. Nearly 60 tmcft live storage capacity available to Andhra Pradesh in Sileru river basin can also augment the water availability additionally to the Polavaram project during the dry season. Megha engineering works company is working on polavaram left canal in this Purushotha patnam lift sceme in stage 1 and 2. The idea is to give 10 tmc water in kharif when water is available in godavari then save that inflow in yeleru reserviour and use it in rabi and summer for vizag. YSR has nothing to this linking. | ||

Then whatever the water received in yeleswaram reservoir from yeleru river will be stored (total capacity is 24 tmc) for non-kharif and summer usage in Vizag. In this Purushotha patnam lift scheme stage 2, they are wideneing all canals that takes water to vizag with capacity of 1400 cusecs.
