The very foundation of the idea that govt levies taxes in order to uplift the living standards of the citizens, is itself a blasphemy. I met a professor aged around 70 last time when i went to India ..he worked in UK lived a devine life kids 3 of them highly successful .., muggurini govt schools lo chadivinchadu and in between 1-10 classes 3-4 years home schooling cheyinchadu.., just baratham and sangeetam nerpinchadu warangal lanti town lo untoo.., now out of three 2 live in US oen in UK..he grown his own food and has few cows with him...his expenditure is 1000-1500 per month doesn't use cell ph only uses it in need...spends most of his time reading books... here point is middle-class poor is all mind set still with out phone and sending kids to govt schools (now govt schools are working good) and living in a town like bodhan costs very less and with good habits life can be lead | ||

The American Heart Association has also warned about the impact of PM2.5 on heart health and mortality: “Exposure to PM <2.5 microm in diameter (PM(2.5)) over a few hours to weeks can trigger cardiovascular disease-related mortality and nonfatal events; longer-term exposure (eg, a few years) increases the risk for cardiovascular mortality to an even greater extent than exposures over a few days and reduces life expectancy within more highly exposed segments of the population by several months to a few years." An association between mothers’ exposure to fine particles and birth defects has also been established by several reports. Already discussed....Vehicular Pollution is one of the factors... Industrial Pollution is contributing much more. Atleast all the passenger vehicles are following latest environmental norms and many old vehicles are already phased out. Paying taxes is a contract that binds the citizens to the govt. When the govt. violates its end of the bargain for long periods of time, the repurcussions can be serious. In an average Indian's life - there is nothing that our taxes are directly benefiting us - everything is market prized, education/ gas/ water/ electricity/ water are all either self generated or serviced or privately provided, the less said about policing the better (we are more scared of going to the police station). Let's not even go into libraries, museums, parks, etc. So in what sphere of civic life is a citizen made to feel it is worth his while to live in India. | ||

I wonder why the hell we pay taxes when we have to provide air, water, education, security ourselves. Atleast in developed countries, even if you pay high %age taxes there are some necessities that the govt provides. In India over the past 2-3 decades, the middle class has been completely left adrift. The moment the middle classes wean themselves away from any of these publicly provided goods - these institutions start collapsing. After the middle class started sending their kids to private schools and going to private hospitals then their overall upkeep, maintenance, service qualities start declining. When we were young in Hyderabad, we used to drink water just by filtering. But everyone has an RO system now. An RO system is an environmental disaster as it wastes 3/4 ths water. Same with air now. Once the middle/ upper classes feel that air purifiers are a must, govt. will throw up its hand and start saying that air pollution can't be controlled. The poor will have to live with hazardous air. One does not expect a quid pro quo in taxes, but atleast the citizens should see some marginal utility. If this continues down this way, sooner or later, people are going to question why they are paying 30-40% taxes when they don't need anything in return. That moment will be a cathartic experience. |
