BTW I agree that IR is greater than SPB in terms of musical prowess, genius is very small word for him and my day begins and ends with IR.
I love IR so much that I spend good money very recently to buy some gramaphone records and record player just to listen to the analog versions of his creations. The sound on them is fantastic. |

I know about this Sir. The royalty issue didn't come up in Russia, Singapore or Malaysia SPB50 concerts. Only came up for US concert. For reasons best known to the both parties.
I am for paying royalty, but how fair it is to apply for a milestone concert even if involves large money ? Why not have a conversation instead of a notice ?
All these sniff sniff of something else other than royalty. |

To me comparing a singer with a composer is as ridiculous as a comparing a dialog writer and actor who delivers the dialog.
Composer is a creator of a piece of art, is "Writes" music and vocal is one part of it. A singer, is as much an instrument in his work, like another instrument players.
I am not taking anything away from Singers or instrument players. When it comes to creativity and "expression" of art - a major credit belongs to the creator - the composer. But without the instruments and singers - composer work's will never have any impact.
Imagine this - think about the Happy Birthday song - the composer of the song created - today there are millions of singers who "can" sing it.
There is a reason writers, poets and music composers are handful - and their work and fame lasts longer. they are a rare breed.

There is not one Ilayaraja song in the concert.Looks like Yesudas also not singing Ilayaraja songs in his concerts which is not the case previously.
Very strange. Some of best Yesudas songs in Tamil are in IR's composition.

To me comparing a singer with a composer is as ridiculous as a comparing a dialog writer and actor who delivers the dialog.
Composer is a creator of a piece of art, is "Writes" music and vocal is one part of it. A singer, is as much an instrument in his work, like another instrument players.
I am not taking anything away from Singers or instrument players. When it comes to creativity and "expression" of art - a major credit belongs to the creator - the composer. But without the instruments and singers - composer work's will never have any impact.
Imagine this - think about the Happy Birthday song - the composer of the song created - today there are millions of singers who "can" sing it.
There is a reason writers, poets and music composers are handful - and their work and fame lasts longer. they are a rare breed. |

Another thing that I want to quote to emphasize that things were fine between them until recently. After demise of MSV, IR did a concert in Tamil called "Enullil MSV", SPB was on a world tour during the same time. IR didn't invite any one for the concert, no top or senior singers, all songs were sung by his troupe singers. In that concert IR clearly said I wanted to pay my own tribute and didn't want any thing or anyone dilute it, if I (IR) wanted I would have just asked Balu to come back from his concert (in a way Demand Balu).
So antha chanuvu tho annaru ante - things were fine.
Another story I heard is IR never liked Charan cozying up to Gangai Amaran's (IR's own brother) son, GA and IR fell apart due to issues with money related to some audio company (I think ECHO), again it was related to Money (may be audio rights). So Charan's twiddling a conflicting concert with IR's own concert I think it didn't go well at all and was the final nail. SPB obviously would support Charan in this case, being a father. |

SPB and Director Bharathiraja knew one another due to being in Madras circle and cinema field. IR knew the director from his home village. When IR and brothers came to Madras looking to get into the music field, they stayed for sometime with him and came in touch with SPB.
From his early teens, IR and brothers had a music group. They also played in SPB's band. This was before SPB became famous. IR actually trained in classical music while playing in bands and assisting music directors. He got his break because assistant director Panchu saw IR's talent(IR married his eldest son into Panchu family.). Remember SPB saying at one point, IR became too busy assisting MD to come play and also SPB or IR saying SPB didn't sing in the first 2-3 films of IR. So IR had no aid from anyone except himself.
SPB on a talkshow said that IR became too devotional and restricting himself of normal fun.
IR himself spoke of some spiritual awakening in the late 70s that totally changed him.
Just trying to show that even if they were good friends, neither needs to feel ego. Both talented and grew on own talent. |

IR came out of this much earlier than SPB felt he should.
If that is the case this "friendship" would have broken long long back, inni years ekkaduntundhi. For many years IR didn't have Balu sing songs in his movies, even when they were doing concerts together. I remember last one was perhaps Dhoni.
Oka rakamga ARR popularity ki iddaru oke saari oblivionlo ki vellipoyaaru.
IRR came back to doing music after the average composer's (not ARR) compositions lost popularity and IR started doing more concerts.
Ee rojuki kooda IR concerts lo max songs paadedhi his pre-2000 compositions not the later ones, so ayana so called hit ratio taggindhi - Fans ki of course there are a lot of good ones in recent times.

Also IR earlier concert lo kooda IR/SPB ki evo financial difference vachayi antannaru, appati nunchi nadustondi anta, SPB asked more money, IR denied additional money in US concerts. Everything got added up..
But itseems Vishal is trying to patch up these two by organizing a concert in Chennai, where both will perform together. Enta varaku work out avutundo choodali..

SPB always claimed he had 50 years close bonding with IR, but this has no value if his ego gets hurt and cannot resolve the issue.
