I am not completely against a welfare state. its the type of transaction that is happening here. In a social setup, there is always give and take, but the proposal here, will turn things bad in the long run. How many today like reservations that are not part of the folks who get the reservations. it may be a good initiative, but can it be adjusted with time or based on a scientific analysis? if something cannot be adjusted with time, and based on a set or rules, soon it will become a burden. | ||

It sounds strange to hear the word "rulers" in democracy, but they are really behaving like "rulers". once this is done, there is no going back. next governments will never be able to take this away from folks, and government that will propose the reversal or even decreasing the amount, will have not chance of winning. Yes,they can buy from the same shop,Govt will reimburse the tokens/coupons to the merchant with cash But there should be a very strong mechanism for authentication and only used for grocery,otherwise the merchants can pay cash @50% and buy those coupons | ||

instead of cash, the govt should give grocery coupons ,that can be redeemed only for grocery (rice, etc) at selected Grocery shops (like food stamps in US)and should have mechanism that these coupons can be redeemed only by the person whom it is issued (Like linking them with aadhar no and biometric validation at PoS ) | ||

Anyway I hear that no one actually uses the stuff and sell them to hotels etc In a revolutionary step, Telangana Government is mulling the cancellation of all Fair Price Shops popularly known as a Ration Shops in the State. After canceling all the shops, the beneficiaries will be given a fixed amount directly in their bank accounts every month. This money can be used to purchase the things they want. There are allegations of massive irregularities in Ration Shops for decades together. Despite the best efforts, the government could not arrest that corruption. So, Telangana government is mulling this idea. This is a form of Direct Cash Transfer which is happening in the Case of Cooking Gas etc. The idea which is pending with the Chief Minister will be first introduced in a few places as a pilot project and will be later extended to the entire state. |
