I think there are two reasons for this. One he has a little accent and he is considered as a madrasi His voice is more suitable for semi classical songs.During that time hindi music itself is moving towards peppy numbers and do not ahve that classical flavor any more. more than the darshan, as a singer you are destined to get that experience of listening to the song.. probably this is more than seeing the Lord himself. Afterall both are experiences. One is thru eyes to the mind, the other is thru ears to mind, Either way you reach him.. Ilanti song swagatam krishna, which he sings on Lord Krishna, I am pretty sure, even though he would have been denied entry to Guruvayur, the Lord himself might have given the same experience as Guruvayur to Yesudas, I strongly believe Krishna would have run to him listening to the song.. BTW Harivarasanam song lo oka mistake padite, initial gaa temple vallu aa song ni allow cheyyaledu,, He sang as Harivimardhanam,, instead of Ari Vimardhanam..
