Dont go now when treatment is in progress. Without you, your wife managing alone will be impossible. You will be support to her wherever you are make sure you all as family are together. No one can beat that strength. Unless its impossible to manage finances here for medical bills, dont think of changing the place.

One of my close friend mother-in-law is undergoing esophagus cancer treatment, logistics are very tough as he says.. Here you wont have those challenges. And hospitals are just fine to leave anyone alone in the hospital.

If you need moral support bring in people from India. Since parents are here, you should be fine.

Other than that until treatment is complete and she is declared free, dont think of going to India.

One of my collegue at work managed alone with his wife treated for Lukemia. So dont let any emotions/fear come to your mind. Just stay strong and tough.. best will happen automatically.

Thanks everyone..

we are not seeing boston childrens hospital now but had second opinion there.. its almost 1.5 to 2 hrs journey from where i stay but move avudam anna uddesam tho second opinion ki velte, the doc there said its going to be same protocol so unless i feel the need or urgency, i dont need to be moved from where she was being treated..i liked the docs here they are very familiar with her case details and other strings attached apart from leukemia at the time of diagnosis. so i felt its better to continue here.

the gud thing is she being diagnosed with low risk, her treatment duration would be little less than expected.

Sorry to hear, but its a fight that needs to be won..

Key things easy to say but hope you will get strength for the following
1. Dont let any -ve energy pop into the family by any means.
2. Dont let anyone loose hope, having positive frame of mind is very important to fight.
3. Have the life as normal as possible.
4. No Panic at any time.

You have 1.5 years, file for green card, Its better to be here and continue the treatment. Dont think of other options at this time.

I guess your daughter is born here, even if not talk to local senator, they will help in all means if immigration/stay here is a problem.

I have seen 4 persons recently all who won the fight.. So nothing to worry at this time. After treatment of lukemia one person in neighborhood was perfectly alright, went to India, came back and leading normal life. So nothing to worry.

If you live close to Boston, go to Boston children's hospital for treatment. It's one of the top children's hospitals in the country.

Love4all

I agree with Boglehead.

Two of my colleagues kids were treated at Boston Children's hospital, they were back to their playgrounds in less than 10 months.

My best bet would be Boston Hospital.

If your daughter is born in US, write a letter to your local Senator, your visa will get extended on Humanitarian Grounds. I knew a guy who did that, when he went through similar situation.

Speedy recovery to your daughter.

Stay strong Love4all. There are very good treatments available for Leukemia now. Most of that is available in India as well today. In Hyderabad, the best pediatric oncologists are in Basavatarakam but American Oncology Institute in Nallagandla is also quite famous.

However, start your GC process and keep extending the H1 as long as you can. Medical care that you get in the US is unparalleled. When we were in a similar (but not the same) situation back in India, we interacted with doctors here in Boston to understand and digest the prognosis.

You are in a situation where you can provide the best medical care in the world to your daughter. Aa paina it is God's wish.

May she recover soon.

If you live close to Boston, go to Boston children's hospital for treatment. It's one of the top children's hospitals in the country.
In terms of treatment, a lot will happen in that 1.5 yrs time on you have on your H1.
Get parents or in laws for 6 months because she is likely to spend a significant amount of time in the hospital, and will likely need to go to ER often because of possible complications from the treatment.

This might be of some help in understanding her prognosis.

I hope she does well.

Sorry to hear that.dont worry at all. B-ALL treatment has a very good prognosis.
The treatment is also standardised across hospitals ,there are currently two protocols and there are plans to standardise into one.if you movie states/countries you would get same treatment.after around 6 months there would be no hospital stays (unless kid is neutropenic).

Hospital stays are stressful, kids bounce back quickly.Dont worry too much.
will pm tomorrow,we can talk

Babai.. I had my colleague whose son had leukemia and we worked together for 6 years in one company. We used to have a daily update. It was cured and now the kid is 14. He is cancer free from last 8 years. So there is high chance that it can be cured. So be positive.

related to other question, I face cancer case in my family and I lost hope the day i heard news from India. I went to india to talk to doctors and for my surprise only some doctors in hyderabad are top notch. They are not less than any one in usa. I did lots of research on cancer and treatment and i found that india has good facilities. Do not worry about it. I can guide you if you need more details.

I can suggest you one thing. It is gods decision and you would not be able to do anything other than supporting patient. Never think of the end. Just become very hard and do not make the environment around you that something very bad happened. Live life as normal. Nature will take care of everything. death, birth etc. you cannot control anything. It is gods decision.

sorry to hear about your daughter...treatment depends on the kind of cancer...some are more complicated than others...india lo treatment options definite ga untayi.... one of my family members had gone thru cancer in 1999 and got cured from basava tarakam hospital....definitely treatment and facilities are better in this country...i wouldn't discount india if you had to go and have no other option...things have improved a lot in India..if you start looking for second opinion, its not a bad thing but you need to have all the reports, files, xray, mRI whatever...you cant expect the oncologist in india to give an opinion without giving him all the details...

again dont worry too much...based on the type of cancer there are few complications but the doctor here would have informed you about these issues

Love4all:

The first reason i registered in this db is to discuss abt it... few months ago, saw members discussing abt autistic kids. so i thought someone who are in our position might help us, though i hate to ask this question cos i dont want any parent or kid go through this.

Its about my daughter who is 4 now diagnosed with Leukemia few months ago. maku first time ilantidi okati undi ani telisinsa roju. Treatment jarugutu undi and lasts for 2 more years i guess. naa h1 will be just for 1.5 years and gc inka file avvaledu. so we are scared now wt if we had to go back to india ani.. akkada treatment gurinchi gani, costs associated with it or insurance edi idea ledu.. and chala bhayalu pattukunnayi wife ki. diagnosis ayyina day that was very terrible, enduko okkasari india lo ila ayi unte kanuka docs valla ayyedi kademo anipinchindi, the worst could have happened ani anipinchindi. poni treatment tarvata ela untundi, normal ga ayipotara i donno.. cant ask anybody outside except doctor. i donno i am judst typing whatever coming to my mind cos i cant speak it out to anybody including my wife. she herself is so trembled and depressed..worst phase of our life..

deeniki thodu immigration issues tho manassanti undatledu asalu... poni ayyededo avutu ndi india ki vewllipodam ante, environmental change valla health condition worst avutademo ani inko bhayam. endukante first us ki vachinappudu(she is like 2 years) oka 6 months oka state lo unnamu, she used to be very healthy and brave.. hardly remember her sick days, can count on fin gers. the moment we moved to new state, she started showing the symptoms which her pediatrician couldnt relate immediately.. so maku environment change valla ayindemo ani kuda bhayam pattukundi.

i am really sorry to ask this, evaraina ee position lo unte pls share ur experience. Also if any one know best pediatric oncologist in hyd?
