Some Asian-Americans may have thought they were immune to incidents such as these, protected by our relative privilege and perceived "model minority" status. But if a doctor can be beaten and dragged by officers for refusing to "volunteer" a plane seat he legally purchased, it should be clear that no such immunity exists. And the speed with which right-wing publications and social media users have moved to dismiss this incident and retroactively condemn Dao should underscore that, in Trumpmerica, any of us who don't conform to the vision of "greatness" are now at risk.
So Asian-Americans, immigrants, women, LGBTQs and yes, members of the white working class: If you didn't come out in support of Black Lives Matter before, now is the time -- because you or someone you love could be the life that "matters" next. |

After boarding was completed, the air hostess said on intercom there was a passenger on standby with an emergency situation. if any one is willing to give up their seat they can accommodate him. more than 10 people showed up. He was pulled/dragged out of plane first time.But he was able to escape somehow and ran back to his seat(may be to pick up his belongings or sit back again)
So it looks like he was running in the plane (if we see only that part of the video)
Then some lady (after seeing the guys condition) protested the airline behavior and offered to get down of the plan and then every one in the plane stood up to get down..the plane was delayed for 3 hrs and the man was taken to Hospital
I have seen the video posted on twitter by the passenger flying on the train |

I think hotel cannot leave you stranded after room conformation. They have to show you alternative , they can't just give refund. They have put you in a different hotel. Idhi kuda Chala sarlu jarigindhi..
Yes some (maybe several)airline staff are a bit rude. Customer service in airline industry tanked for sure. But 'law ' has made unrealistic demands of airlines and giving them more latitude to manage their seats(revenue).
Eee incident lo I was just saying what happened ( being bumped after boarding ..not being dragged) is more common than you think. I am not suppporting airline staff. Doctors past has nothing to do with what I said yesterday. I seriously do not think Doctor planned this or United has expected it to go this way. Both parties thought they had control on situation until they did not!! |

With the recent incident and considering how many passengers bumped every year (45K), it is good idea to know your rights especially if you fly very often. Make note of below highlighted.
The DOT warns fliers that their bargaining power is the greatest before they cash in their reward for being involuntarily bumped -- whether it's a voucher or a check.
"Once you cash the check (or accept the free flight), you will probably lose the ability to pursue more money from the airline later on," the DOT says on its website.
If you the cost of being bumped exceeds what you were paid at the airport, you can always try to negotiate a higher settlement via the airline's complaint department, the agency says. And if that doesn't work, you can sue.
"You are always free to decline the check (e.g., not cash it) and take the airline to court to try to obtain more compensation," according to the DOT. |

The CEO of United Airlines apologized again Tuesday amid a global uproar sparked when a passenger was dragged screaming from his seat on a flight that, it turns out, wasn't even overbooked.
"I continue to be disturbed by what happened on this flight, and I deeply apologize to the customer forcibly removed and to all the customers aboard," CEO Oscar Munoz said in a statement. "No one should ever be mistreated this way."
United has been under siege since videos of Sunday night's violent confrontation on the plane at Chicago's O'Hare Airport went viral, drawing hundreds of millions of views around the world. Social media outrage rained down on the Chicago-based airline.
United spokesman Jonathan Guerin said Tuesday that all 70 seats on United Express Flight 3411 were filled, but the plane was not overbooked as the airline previously reported. Instead, United and regional affiliate Republic Airlines, which operated the flight, selected four passengers to be removed to accommodate crew members needed in Louisville the next day. The passengers were selected based on a combination of criteria spelled out in United’s contract of carriage, including frequent-flier status, fare type, check-in time and connecting flight implications, among others, according to United.
Three passengers went quietly. The fourth, who was literally pulled out of his seat and off the plane, was David Dao, a physician in Elizabethtown, Ky.
Late Tuesday, CNBC reported that a pair of Chicago attorneys, Stephen L. Golan and Thomas A. Demetrio, are representing Dao. A statement from Golan said Dao is undergoing treatment in a Chicago hospital for unspecified injuries.
"The family of Dr. Dao wants the world to know that they are very appreciative of the outpouring of prayers, concern, and support they have received," Golan said in a statement. "Currently, they are focused only on Dr. Dao's medical care and treatment" and will not be making any comments to the media.
Munoz issued his first public apology Monday but hours later sent a letter to the airline's employees lauding the behavior of the flight crew in dealing with a "disruptive and belligerent" passenger. Munoz credited employees with following established procedures on the Louisville-bound flight.
"This situation was unfortunately compounded when one of the passengers we politely asked to deplane refused, and it became necessary to contact Chicago Aviation Security Officers to help," the letter says. "While I deeply regret this situation arose, I also emphatically stand behind all of you, and I want to commend you for continuing to go above and beyond to ensure we fly right."
Munoz conceded, however, that "there are lessons we can learn from this experience," and he promised an investigation. Chicago aviation officials placed a security officer on leave, saying the incident "was not in accordance with our standard operating procedure."
UNITED TAKES A HIT
Eric Schiffer, CEO of Reputation Management Consultants, termed United's handling of the incident "brand suicide."
"When you go onto a United flight, you shouldn’t have to be concerned there will be blood or you will get slammed in the face," Schiffer said. "I think you will see an effect on sales from those who are disgusted by the gruesome action. And it’s catastrophic for a brand’s trust."
United stock had dropped steadily by midafternoon Tuesday, amounting to an estimated $255 million of the airline's market value. Schiffer said United, aided by robust advertising, will recover.
"But they are definitely going to lose customers and they should," he said.
The incident came two weeks after United took withering criticism for requiring two girls to change out of leggings before boarding a flight in Denver. United explained that leggings and yoga pants are among banned attire for people flying with employee pass privileges because such fliers are viewed as representing the company. |

Passenger has every right to show dissent on airlines action, sue them for grievance caused.
He also has responsibility to follow crew directions.

Every airlines overbook so they can ensure they dont go with any empty seats. In the fine print we even allow them to take us out if they choose to. They need 4 seats to accomodate 4 pilots to g to another city for work. 3 volunteers took the vouchers and left. They picked this guy based on their criteria (there are 9-10 of them anta). In the order of checkin, he got picked as late checkin compared to others and they asked him to leave. Drag cheyyadam too much. |
