I am not saying it is or know about it. From common sense point, it is double dipping. Your gross is 110k. AGI was 99k as 11k HSA was not included and only 99k was taxed. Ideally if you have 10k or more beyond HSA expenses, then deduction is claimable. However if you don't use HSA and pay 10k from pocket, it makes sense to claim deduction. the story of YCP and TDP in 2014 (AP)- http://goo.gl/zgrYmQ http://goo.gl/gn6XL5 the story of TDP in 2014 (T) - http://goo.gl/nyu1Wu |

vunkle, here's a scenario 1 guy has 20k on HSA, 90k AGI. if his medical bill is 11k, he can pay 11k from hsa and get 2k in medical deductions right? It's perfectly legal as I don't see any language restricting hsa's |

What is this deductible? Is it you pay all initial costs till limit is reached or your total amount of co payment? Our plan has no deductibles as such but pay co payments of 30/40/50 when goes to doctor. Nservicebus:can I include my life term insurance amount also in tax returns
No, Insurance premiums are not tax deductible (any kind of insurance) regarding deduction, the rule doesn't say it's limited to HSA, so you can take either way. Another point with HSA is, the money you put was already tax free (pre-tax income), and you got a tax benefit |

If you look at the math, Premiums HSA = 3 to 6 times premiums for non HSA plan. If you, hd and kids are generally healthy, HSA better option. I too have HSA plan as math justified the end out of the pocket expected expenses. Regular doctor visits cost about 100 per visit. Family ki 12 visits ki 1200 anukunte, hsa premiums+deductible were still less than premiums + 12 copays. Estimate your # of visits, 1 urgent care visit, 1 emergency visit and see what your bottom line expenses are. Then pick your plan. My gut feel is that HSA would be good enough for you |

Rocks, if you are expecting kids, go with non HSA option. If not, go with HSA. In your case, with premiums, deductibles, max out of pocket comparisons, the only thing that seems to matter is deductible. Also find out if deductible is "per individual" in your non-hsa plan. For hsa plans, even if your wife had all the expenses you still have to hit family deductible 6k. For some non-hsa plans, if your wife exceeds 1.5k, then insurance kicks in. 01/06/2012 - 169.4; 8/1/2013 - 182; 9/23/2016 - 185.8 |

ntr_rocks, is this for 2016 or 2017? I think it is eligible https://www.irs.gov/publications/p969/ar02.html The following table shows the minimum annual deductible and maximum annual deductible and other out-of-pocket expenses for HDHPs for 2017. Self-only coverage Family coverage Minimum annual deductible $1,300 $2,600 Maximum annual deductible and other out-of-pocket expenses* $6,550 $13,100 * This limit doesn’t apply to deductibles and expenses for out-of-network services if the plan uses a network of providers. Instead, only deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses for services within the network should be used to figure whether the limit applies. |
