All round ante let us say 2 scenarios: Scenario 1: Very Good ACT/SAT score and Very Good GPA and not much to talk about other activities like Voluntary work, Internship etc Scenario 2: Good Scores and GPA (Not as good as Scenario 1) and good Voluntary Hours, Some Internship etc It can happen like candidate from Scenario 2 end up with good admissions! My wife used to call to find out admissions office in UNC and they consistently said they look at all round abilities! I met a person who prepares kids for colleges for last 20 years and the lady says same as the Admissions Coordinator at UNC said! My daughter's friend from TJ High School came to attend an interview (For some Robertson Scholarships) in UNC Chapel Hill where she got admission! She says from TJHS some seniors with very good GPA/ACT/SAT Scores were not getting to top universities but some with good scores but who played in School Teams, Who are some club members etc getting into good schools! | ||

yes. rather than plain volunteer hours in library or church, i suggest doing the same in some museums or similar places where there is direct public interaction. nobody really knows. Ivy leagues change grading methodology if they even get the slightest idea that someone figured them out but the chances are higher if you have Excellent scores, non-privileged background (Asians, whites, J's are considered academically privileged), Sports backgrounds, and strong non academic projects If you are international student with good scores, you have much better chances of admission as you pay full fee | ||

Also, my daughter got both UNC Chapel Hill and NC State where are one or two with slightly better scores could not get in! So, ALL ROUND they look at I guess! ESSAYS too play a lot in Admission! | ||

this is true, if you have a GPA of 4 from worst school or neighborhood, you have high chances of getting into good school compared to 4 GPA student from TJ on top of that work experience, internships matter a lot | ||
