Back from a hectic ten day US trip. Konni observations. 1. Options are more in the UK for vegetarians. Any restaurant - there are multiple options for vegetarians here. In the US, at most there is one dish that we can try. 2. Seattle really has a gloomy weather. UK too is not that different though. 3. Lots of options for Indian movies. Felt really jealous UK is awful in this aspect. 4. My credit card/debit card did not work in most of the counters - because of the swipe/zip code combination required. Had to withdraw money from ATMs and use cash instead. Hope USA implements chip and pin readers everywhere. 5. Right/Left problem: Faced an interesting problem. Though I am comfortable with left hand drive, I noticed that I was driving too close to the right border of the lane because my brain was accustomed to keep the car in line with the right border of the lane in the UK. So, even when I am sitting on the left side of the car, I tend to gravitate towards the right. Took sometime to reprogram that. 6. Thought traffic was bad in the UK. Nothing compared to the slowdowns on Seattle freeways. 7. People in general are friendlier in the US than the UK (strangers) 8. Everything is cheaper in the US - especially electronics. There is no comparison at all. You guys are lucky. (Jealous again) 9. Netflix - Sigh again. UK library is a fraction of the US library. (Jealous again) 10. Green Card, H4 EAD, Administrative processing - I thought it was only in the DB that these discussions happen so passionately... I was wrong. People seem to discuss little else. Everyone's worried (non-GC folks). |
