if you have browsed their website earlier, if your location services is on, they could have gotten your phone details. when you entered the store, if you had bluetooth on, the store can detect you. if you have browsed westelm after logging in using your email then its no brainer. now, if you have logged into your westelm account at some point on a device that is near to your device - both the devices could be coupled. this is what linkedin and many other social media products do with features like "do you know these guys?", "you also may know thes guys?" | ||

I know that Google is into location based advertising.It is already soft testing with few advertisers.But it is not a advertisement/notification from google ,but email from the merchant The only intriguing thing is how they linked you with your email account (outlook) May be you have already actively logged into the Westelm account while you are in the store or already logged into before you were in store and it may have picked based on your geo location or there may be any sensors/rfid tags on the bed that got paired with your westelm account Many possibilities ! | ||

if you have given your name, they might have pulled your information from the database. These guys have contact with companies which maintain person information by buying from verizon, comcast, all xyz comapnies. if you have not given your info then google might be the culprit. Google track you and send you the data. Companies register a business in google and register coordinates etc to send an email. when you walk in, google track you and send email. same thing with other softwares.. | ||

I understand that our shopping/searching is tracked. But, I am trying to figure out how they tracked my visit to a store yesterday. Can you please spot the "link"? Here is the sequence of events. 1. I have a secondary email(outlook.com) registered with West Elm. It was created when I was searching for some furniture deals. This email is not linked to my Apple ID or Google. 2. I am also looking for a mattress. I found that Casper mattress can be tried at West Elm stores. 3. I used Google maps to navigate to West Elm store. 4. Walked into the store, didn't talk to anyone. (Phone was in my pocket) 5. I tried the Casper mattress. 6. Walked out of the store and started driving home. 7. I got an email asking me "Did you love it? Come back and take another look" showing me the images of the Casper mattress and the bed frame I tried on the store. My phone can be used to track my location. But, how did they link my secondary e-mail ID to my phone and how did they know what I tried in the store? The last item searched on their website was TVstand/media console.
