If miss ayya...next post lo esa correction...how I do after one or two downturns will tell if I am good at it ani kavi baavam. Bubbles meedha kasta research chesa...problem with bubbles enti ante: 1) Even if you identify the bubble correct, it may take upto 5 years for it to burst. Best returns are always in the last leg of the bubble when lots of people jump into to it like sheep. 2) If you are too scared bubbles and stay away from markets...you might be watching on the sidelines for too long ani very good investors salaha...better to get a little bit hurt during bubbles than totally trying to avoid them ani decide chesaaru. Other interesting moves: Dendreon....Seattle based caner research company...kontha mandi colleagues invest chesaaru...they were the first company to get fda approval for cancer vaccine..stock shot up some 20-30 times...then it crashed really bad because they were running out of money...invested some...knowing bankruptcy was possible...but my bet was really high upside if they can survive...company went bankrupt...lost my investment. Don't think its a bad move...but need to get more knowledge about the way biotech companies operate and their products. Generally over the years, I think I have performed on par with S&P 500...last 2-3 nundi deeply into real estate...so haven't done much with stocks...excepting selling employer shares and investing them. Now, the question is can I learn from my mistakes and outperform S&P 500...if not...better to save time and invest in some funds and occasionally balance the mix of stocks vs bonds, domestic vs international markets etc. Thinking of selling some real estate and getting back into stocks before the next downturn. Last downturn lo I was lucky becuase did not have much exposure to begin with...ee saari...how I will come out of it will tell...I am good at managing this. | ||

Career lo first 2 years peddaga time and income ledhu..so did not invest. I started investing at the end of 2008...so I have been lucky more than anything. Nenu keen ga follow ayye industries financial services (Banking and credit, Tech). My hits...2009 lo all stocks crashed like hell including companies that were doing very well. What I invested in...ICICI Bank, HDFC, Microsoft, Google ki earnings did not even drop by 5% but stock tanked by 70%...so invested all my cash in them. Also, through out 2009-11...financials were deeply discounted...appudu Goldman, Wells Fargo, Capital One etc konna those worked...most of these stocks are rated by people by Buffet as having strong management. India lo HDFC, ICICI etc kooda same very well run, consistent growth and profts margins, led by industy jewels like Deepak Parekh and Kamat. Capital One is one company that always like based on my personal experience on how they invested in Analytics much much earlier compared to everyone in financial services. I interviewed with them out of college, on site interviews anni keka, CEO Rich Fairbanks came to school and gave a talk ahead of recruiting events. Migatha companies have a large deposit base...so cost of funds is close to zero...but capital one needs to borrow money and then use it for their lending business...ayina we are able to maintain good margins because we are cutting edge anedhi baaga ekkesindhi......appati nundi keenly followed and also have lots of friends that worked there. Lot of companies like Citi, Chase, HSBC etc tried to mimic them by hiring people from Captial one. 2007 nunde they sensed a down turn cut lot of people to save on costs...when every one was scared after recession..they bought a few banks like ING Direct and HSBC USA...ippudu they also have a low cost of funds. This stock consistently out performs almost every bank. Same with Google..consistent history of churning out great products. Know some people that dealt with Pichai from Microsoft. His first product was building google toolbar for explorer. He took more and more products under him like Chrome, Android etc...appudu chaala mandhi insiders cheppevallu..he will be very succesful ani. Appati nundi generally very bullish on Google. Generally did very well with acquistion targets that are reasonably priced like Ariba, Linkedin. What flopped ante... Indian IT firms ni track chese vaadini...Satyam used to be priced very low compared to Infy, TCS etc. Always thoguht somebody like IBM will acquire them...when Satyam said they will acquire Mytas at a ridiculous cost, stock dropped from 15 to 7...bought it, they said we will not buy ....stock went up again...was going to sell it was lazy to sell it for a day to two...stock tanked to $1...still held...govt appointed Deepak Parekh to set it right...they found tech mahindra to buy...stock went upto $5-$6..sold and exited. Shorted Netflix once...thinking the valuation was ridiculously high...got burnt...appati nundi never do options that too betting against good tech companies. some more stories in another post. | ||
