I have no opinion on the traditional dresscodes of priests or devotees going shirtless and wearing dhotis ... they wear what they believe is acceptable attire. I was objecting to the IP interjecting personal opinion on skin exposure amidst talking about shastras , traditions to give validity to that opinion.. Lungi style panche kattukunna volunteers/devotees half the time fold it up to aid movement exposing the same parts as shorts ... but panche kabatti sampradayam, shorts kabatti flashing private parts lanti language vadochu ante emi cheppalemu... As to the rest of your post, I don't know your experience ! I can definitely speak for our temple priests - we are blessed with simply wonderful priests ... they are just awesome in their service, their work ethic and dedication ! I have been associated with 3 temple for past 5 years, have very close relationships with priests. One day some one said to priest when he was thanking him who was a volunteer, that " I have only one job to worry, but you have many jobs to worry so you need to take some rest". Then priest said yes I have to satisfy many people like board members, trustees, sponsors, volunteers, visitors, else I will have to worry.. Then I said, yes the least thing that priest needs to worry is about the Deity.. Even though everyone laughed, that is the hard fact.. Many things are getting compromised and Priests are most unhappiest persons as they cannot do anything freely to deity.. If they take 5 additional minutes to decorate deity, then people crib,, like that I see so many incidents, but feel fine as we still are happy with whatever we do to Deity. Winner Audio review | ||

most of them are fully trained priests only learning for more than 15plus years or so. I second this. Having gone/going to local temples near my place very regularly from past few years, I can say with confidence that there are lot of different aspects with different persons (read as priests). Northies want only bhajans (not exceeding 20 mins) and wrap up anything with in an hour even if it's a big Yajnam like Vishnu Sahasra naama yajnam, kalyanam or anything. Southies after a while are not comfortable though they know this has to be done this way. To satisfy the audience priests have been asked to stop/cut down what they are doing and play to the galleries. You can keep a dhaavali (very warm during winter) in the pooja room/area and can wear that to do your daily pooja. There is one piece called uttareeyam to cover up in general. cot is a repository of your dead skin cells. probably that is the reason why it was "suggested" to avoid putting new clothes on cot or wearing old unwashed clothes again carrying germs and dead skin cells to the temple. old indian "sacred" temples like tirumala are repositories of positive energy. the idea is to have maximum absorption of the positive energy by having clean mind,clean clothes etc. A person wearing only dhoti will definitely absorb more positive energy than somebody wearing just pant and shirt. | ||

if one can go to temple in panche (the way poojari garu wears) and u can still wear a kurti on top and aa KIKKE veru. But for sure if someone is doing nitya pooja etc., at home MUST wear the dhoti i.e. panche kattu and no shirt, banian on top except uttareeyam. That is the reason why u see poojaris (most from South) wearing only panche and uttareeyam on top. Not for those who are pure in mind/manasu and can concentrate fully on god via meditation (infact since they can see god everywhere may be no need of going to temple at all ala Sri Ramana Maharshi etc.,) irrespective of disturbances from others in the form of Cell phone, weird dresses. Also those who can go to temple with pure mind but feel no need of shower after lunch (Non veg included??), laghu mariyu guru sankalu etc., can ignore the below and can pity Mango people like me. 1) Take Shower and wear washed cloths to the temple. Put a tilakam/bottu as per your custom. Please don't touch the Cot or put washed cloths on the cot to wear after Shower. Cot is considered not pure and usually it is strongly suggested not to eat, put books, jewelleray etc., on it . Actually before entering temple if there is a source, wash your feet, hands and put some water on your head. You have been wearing shoes etc., until now so... 2) Those who are proud of their ancestors clothing can try aDDa panche (ala Tamil style) and can go. BTW someone is commenting how come panche/dhoti will NOT become stitched cloth. As far as I know it is usually weaved with maggams and NOT stiched. Hence is better. Out of it cotton is much better compared to paTTu, because of the more violence involved (killing of so many pattu purugulu and boiling them). But Pattu is allowed though. 3) Whether rules are posted or NOT, it is better to avoid SHORTS, sleeves and stuff like that. You don't want to flash your (or your dear ones) hairy thighs and other private parts.. You are not here to play Tennis Match or Badminton or at the least in a competition to show your muscular body.. Temple lo notice board ledu kabatti ane vaari kosam kaadu ee post. Same with Cell phones and stuff inside temple. 4) Use some common sense and just don't throw your flower bockey on the priest. Take off the flowers and keep them in a plate if you want archana to be done with them. Or make garlend out of it. If priest throws it aside and says will take care of it later you cannot blame him either, as it's not his job to pluck flowers (practically) as he has other better things to do. 5) Since as devotees we assume that god is sitting there in front of us to take our archana, prasadam, prayer be mindful when you offer prasadam. Take off the stickers from bananas and other fruits. We don't eat with stickers right? then why offer to GOD?. Its preferred to offer coconut and bananas. other fruits are good as well. 6) Also if you are preparing some prasadam at home, better prepare it after taking head shower. brahmaghnE cha eva suraapEcha chOrE bhagnavratE tadhaa! nishkrutir vihitaa sadbhihi, kRutaghne na asthi nishkruthi!! |
