these are Govt R & D organizations. Govt is not here to 'sell' and make profit. Extrapolate this to the lands they own .... should they sell Govt lands and make profit to become self-sustained ?

I think questions like these are very tricky... if can choose to ignore but he will get bombarded with such questions... if he has to respond he cannot say anything but impressive...

even if he doesnt like it he doesnt have a choice but to praise..

I think we should focus on technology exploration through these missions as opposed to going to moon and mars.

i think, even if it is limited we should try for couple of things..
1. understand mars, and if humans can survive there.
2. work on deflecting any threats from asteroids. (what if there was a crazy president for another country and he decided not to use the technology to deflect the asteroid that may hit just india because it is too costly?)

we cannot be 1800's india again who didnt want to use guns because they have pig catridges.

lol... when you touch space... days are just drop in a ocean. You need to wait years to have a perfect launch to Mars.

They why did NASA stop launching satellites? Why are they planning for MARS travel? Why did NASA retire sending supplies to ISS?

NASA is a bad example. Everyone tries to catch up with NASA. They set the standards. What ISRO is trying to do was done by NASA long time back and they have everything already in place through their own satellites. US still funds a lot for the ISS. Life beyond earth is a long shot. Countries like India cannot afford such missions. I think we should focus on technology exploration through these missions as opposed to going to moon and mars.

Space programs are no longer(or its not just about) about finding life beyond earth.

They why did NASA stop launching satellites? Why are they planning for MARS travel? Why did NASA retire sending supplies to ISS?

Rule 1) Government should not involve in selling. They are to provide businesses and citizens.
Rule 2) Governments are responsible in advancing human life beyond earth.

NASA re-oriented itself to those goals... they do monitor climate change because its part of human advancement. They do make their data available for companies for free.. but thats just by-product of their monitoring.

Andukey kinda nenu ichina example.. Chiru certifying Indira Gandhi in politics. He is a good investor... he finds opurtunities for tommorow. BUt ISRO is a different beast... we compete with NASA... elon is pappu lo karvepaaku in this space. He is not comparable to ISRO.

They are supposed to explore space and find ETs or a Second Home where Humans can sustain life.

Wrong here. Space programs are no longer(or its not just about) about finding life beyond earth. These programs capture and send a lot of data back about defense, climate changes, imagery, telecommunication, GPS etc. Lot of this data is very valuable for several companies out there.

Most countries are trying to put their satellites through countries like ISRO or trying to get a berth on ISS.

We need to build a model on ISRO successes.

ISRO is the first org to declare water on moon. Elon gadu potty lo water vethukovali...

As i said he is a good investor.. dont give tags like "visionary" "genius" etc... those words are correct in context of investing.. not in science.. in science esp. rocket science he is nothing infront of our stalwart visionaries like Sarabhai, Karsturirangan etc.

Space industry lo Elon musk nothing ani confirmedaaa? All the companies I know has a CEO, CSO, COO, Chief designer etc etc. Tom mueller is the rocket designer for space x, Ms. Shotwell is COO. Both got very strong resume.

And BTW a chief executive officer, the highest ranking person in a company or other institution, ultimately responsible for making managerial decisions.

Thokkalohdi:

Elon Musk/Net worth 13.8 billion USD

ISRO's annual budget is about one billion dollars

The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), which was used on Wednesday to deliver 104 satellites into Earth’s orbit, has been the work horse of Indian space programme, notching up about 40 successful launches since 1994. But it cannot carry communication satellites weighing more than 2,000kg into space.

This limits India’s ability to compete with countries such as France or China for the $300 billion global space industry, and also forces it to hire foreign space firms to launch its own heavy satellites.

See you guys still did not get it...

Who is this Musk in space industry? no body.how can he create spacex? out of his ass?

he is not an Inventor.. he is a investor.

NASA can send 300 sattelites at the same time. But thats not what NASA as a government agency is supposed to do. They are supposed to explore space and find ETs or a Second Home where Humans can sustain life.

So, what they did is they gift packaged all their technology about rockets and space and everything and put it up for grabs... whoever wants to commercialize the sattelite launching tech. So they can concentrate on bigger goals for humans.

But this is the problem, launching satellites is a losing business. You dont make money out of it unless a) the scientists work for pennies b) or if the launching vehicle is reusable. So, Elon Musk the investor came up with an idea of taking this free technology which took entire scientific community (USA, Europe, india, china, russia and every other PHD candidates that poured in several hours of tedious research to develop technology) to build. And add a cherry on the top - vertical landing rockets. lol.

So this guy doesnt have a clue about ISRO's power --- to give any "certification". Its as hilarious as Chiru giving certification that Indira Gandhi is a great politician.

Anyways.. in India we have a different situation, we dont have a commercial space launching company, it will be not that easy.. And there is a huge need for us to launch satellites. So we should spinoff ISRO commercial sattelite launching business into a different org. And get a focused org to work with NASA in advancing the human's journey in time n space.
