Bharateeyudu:
yes, This is just an assumption based on many factors. Short term , we can analyse. After earning a good amount for very long time, I lost a job and it took 6 months to get another job. Even I earned good money and also had some money in assets ( I was unable to convert that into liquid cash because I have less control over it), I had a rough patch in my life. So for short term, I recommend to have at least 3 to 6 months savings that does not disturb your current level comfort. |

Telugu_times:Savings concept waste you need fixed monthly income, even after your retirement one should plan for that pension, rents, 401k, social security etc etc
Yes, You are right. Liquid money is to deal with short term issues . It can be from 6 months to 2 years depends on the person's risk ability, no matter how much we are intelligent or calculative Recurring money is for retirement. If it can generate money with our saved money( rents, pensions or whatever) . If we can not do that ( recurring income) atleast we should be able ( control in our hands) to convert saved money into liquid money. Once again, all these are just concepts on book. Because money is Chanchala . We can end up with anything. |

Moviebuff001:Savings ante retirement income aa leka emergency fund aa... Konchem confusion in thread raagam
It is both. If our liquid availability ( which is in your control ) it is emergency fund. If we have other savings which can be available for liquidity in our life span ( not the properties that would be passed to kids, in other words have the guts to use it ) then it is retirement. |

I forget to add the clause here. We can live happily with the same one million at age of 40, if we have the brain to make it( money) work for us for rest of the time. That means right investment or whatever with regular incomes |

I have 8 months first time after very long time. I used to think 1 million is very high. But after applying this new concept, I understood 1 million is not high. Even if your monthly expenses are $5,000 a month, you can live upto 16.66 years without considering inflation. That means you can live upto 15 years. Assuming we are 40 years old and retired with one million, we need to look for a job at 55 which will be more panic. |

I want to share the perception of that book. Many times, we say I have $xxxxx savings but that makes less sense. If you have more savings ( period), you would more level of comfort. If we have regular income ( say rents, FD interest etc etc) to manage our monthly level of comfort, then we can retire. |

I read somewhere long time ago, savings are not counted in money we have in hand but the period we can live the same comfort of life without disturbing anything. Say for example I need $5000 per month to maintain current comfort and if I have $30,000 in hand my savings are 6 months ( not money). |
