Since I did major part of schooling in Tamil Nadu, below is what I know about MGR thru my friends... 1. MGR is NOT a tamilian. He is from Palghat, Kerela. I guess he is from a NAIR family (Mallu). 2. MGR was impotent. Though he married twice, he could not have children like Dilip Kumar. 3. He used to flirt with all his heroines and he was no different from Gemini Ganesan who was a hardcore womanizer. But at the same time he never treated all women as S*x objects. He gave utmost respect to the ladies. 4. MGR was 31 years older than Jayalalitha. He used to call her Ammu the way her monther used to call her. He was her guardian, mentor and also in a way mistress. He was very obsessive with her. Political Mentor for JJ : Unlike NTR, MGR was no over the night politican. He worked as a treasurer for DMK during Karunanidihi's rule. He could not digest the fact of corruption in ealry 70's and so split from DMK. He worked hard to build his party cadre for 4 years and then contest in 1977. He wanted someone to speak fluently in English to represent TN at Rajya Sabha..That is how he forced Jaya into politics. He is the only actor-politician who has not seen a defeat in elections. From 1977 to 1987 (till his death) he was the CM of TN. However during the time of his death, he was not in talking terms with Jaya due to some misunderstandings. Very philanthropic, compassionate and was the GOD for the •••••••• wonder there were riots in TN for 1 month after his death. Many might not agree with Rajiv Gandhi giving him Bharat Ratna after his death, but I consider him a good human being, nice actor and great leader. | ||
