There is no official statement said that its a MUST so far, but its ENCOURAGED (from the official records). So, if Sushma Swaraj cancels the PIO card validity all together, its against the Government Gazette issued before: http://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/UserGuide/E-gazette.pd f So, I didnt go for OCI so far :-) | ||

when I went recently, the guy at Indian immigration (POE) asked me to convert it to OCI by December, after which my PIO will not be valid. He said to apply online. | ||

Hello Babulu, Scenario : Having 15 year PIO cards for both kids Question : 1. do I need to apply OCI in lieu of PIO card ? ****A separate online application for issue of OCI card in lieu of the PIO card without payment of any registration fee has been devised and available at http://passport.gov.in/oci/capchaActionPIO. The applicant will have to pay the service charges for the outsourcing company as well as postage charges *** or 2.
