I see 2000 note also being re-called shortly like in 1.5-2 years..They printed 2000 for the sake of short-term liquidity during transition..govt wants people to move to online transaction thats also another reason they didn't print extra 50s,100s - to print 85% of value in circulaton in 50s and 100s denominations is going to be much more costly than printing 2000s (no. of notes) - 40 times more and 20 times more assuming same features..also no purpose of printing all 85% liquidity in small notes again when they want people to move to online transactions my guess they printed some 2000s to make up just for daily avg circulation lost due to loss of 500s,1000s and printed some extra 50s,100s..they will decide how many new 1000s to print based on how much money they get back..my guess is they wont do it at all and scrap 2000 shortly..so 500 is the only big note..bottomline cleansing of counterfeit notes, making people wary of hoarding or involving in black-money, increase in govt revenues to transactions in white and increased transperancy,fall in prices of some goods which is jacked up by black money.. | ||

More over, the currency ban is mainly aimed to curb hawala, mafia, counterfit notes and using the money for terrorism/sleepercells. Dawood is now bankrrupt. He had several lakh crores of rupees. Also Pakistan has couple of mints just o print indian 500 and 1K notes. They are being used to fund terror groups and sleeper cells. Also Hawala...they have lakhs of crores of rupees. Lot people are wondering and questioning why govt came up with 2K notes. Modi has been planning this for some time. He needs a backup plan. He needs the new currency to be ready when he announces the ban. For that matter he needs to print the money or at least get the design done and printing equipment ready for it. He can not print new Rs.1000 notes again by just changing the design. That give away the clue. He can not ban the currentcy then plan to bring the new currency. Designing and printing will take time. 2 days gap ke problem aipoyindi...imagine he bans currency without a big note available. That is not possible. Do he just started new 2K note as an add on currency note. When it is ready to be launched, then he decided to ban the 500 and 1K notes. That is the reason why he printed 2K notes. Prices in India are not like USA...people have to fetch 1000's of rupees to buy day to day things...In USA for $100 you get a lot of things. Just keeping 100 rupees note will not work in India unless the goods prices are directly proportional to the value of the note. so he just casually came up with 2K note idea which doesnt give away any clues of the direction he wanted to go. Once he is ready with 2K notes, he banned the existing 500 and 1k notes. | ||

Ee topic gurinchi think chesinattu...I haven't though about anything else in recent years. They took out 14 lakh crores (85 % of currency) over night and very very few people knew about this: PM, finance minister, RBI governor and some key officials. Not even ministers, RBI board or head of banks knew about this ahead of time. Replacing that much of currency in 1 day would not have been possbile without high demonination notes like 2000 note. So, i think it was just coming out of that practical limitation. I just listened to Modi's speech. He also said the liquid cash that is going to be in the market from now is going to be much smaller there by forcing more electronic banking. In theory, they can also do a gradual withdrawl of 2000 rupee notes at a later date after this hectic transition is done and people adjust to more electronic banking. | ||
