Marijuana has been legalized in Florida for medical use and in California for recreational use. However, these are State laws, not Federal laws (a law governing the entire nation). It is very important that you are aware that under Federal law, it is illegal for non-immigrant visa-holders (F-1, J-1, H-1B, etc.) to do either of the following things: 1. Possess, grow, sell or smoke marijuana (even once!) 2. Borrow, rent, buy, use or possess fire arms or ammunition If you do either of these things, you can be removed from the US and/or barred from receiving a visa to re-enter the US. Please donât! In addition, a new regulation has been implemented which states that a J-1 visa is automatically invalidated if a J-1 visa-holder is stopped for âDriving under the Influenceâ (DUI). Although this currently applies only to J-1 visa-holders, it is possible it will soon apply to all non-immigrants. That means if you are even stopped under suspicion of drunk driving, your visa can be revoked.
