Andhrawala:

Many film personalities had a sleepless night on Tuesday, not because they were busy with their shootings or other programmes. They were all busy in converting their black money into white overnight.

According to sources, several Tollywood heroes have converted their huge amounts of black money into gold.

It is a known fact that most of the heroines and wives of these heroes have extreme liking for gold and diamond jewellery. So, soon after Modi made the announcement banning 500 and 1000 denominations, most of these film personalities rushed to the gold and jewellery merchants with their huge cash reserves and got them converted into gold and diamonds.

The cancellation of high-value currency by the Narendra Modi government has hit the Telugu film industry below the belt. Though everything appears normal superficially, the talk is horrible period is ahead for the industry.

The impact of the stroke given by Modi on Tuesday night is just symbolic, but bigger stroke is in the offing in the coming days, say analysts.

According to reports from within the industry, the latest stroke has had a very serious impact on several people in the industry.

While a music company owner has got an irrecoverable shock, a producer, who has stopped producing movies but is funding others to make films, is left with huge stocks of black money.

So is the case with a heroine who has stopped doing films now and is waiting to get married, also has cash of more than Rs 3 crore.

Similarly, another production house which is at the top by producing a series of hit movies in the recent past is also facing the problem of piling up of black money. Apparently, it has kept the cash ready for its forthcoming movie.

A top hero, who has a lot of craze among the youth and is presently going into people on various issues, just got an advance of Rs 10 crore from a top production house for making a movie with him under the direction of a top director.

Another big hero who is equally popular among the youth, also gets huge remuneration, but fortunately, he and his wife do not lose time in re-investing the money on other projects like funding a production house and a theatre business. So, he is safe, at least now!

Film financiers in big soup!

While the Telugu film industry received a rude shock from the Central government’s ban on big currency notes, worse is the condition of film financiers.

It is learnt, many financiers have huge reserves of cash ranging from Rs 4 crore to Rs 10 crore and one of them has even Rs 18 crore hard cash with him. They are at their wit’s end as to how to convert this black money into white.

And there is another problem. They gave funding of crores of rupees to several producers in the Tollywood and they need to recover their loans.

The cache is that since it was all black money, they have to recover their dues only in black and it cannot be done through white transactions and it is not possible in the present circumstances. How to recover this money, as they cannot give it in white and get it back in white.

And with all the financiers getting badly affected, most of the movies which are either in the take-off stage or on the sets are likely to come to halt. One of these movies is from a big banner with a top hero in the lead role.

And it is estimated that another big banner movie of a top hero is also in crisis, because of the producers have huge amounts of black money.

Black money reaches big jewellers?

Many film personalities had a sleepless night on Tuesday, not because they were busy with their shootings or other programmes. They were all busy in converting their black money into white overnight.

According to sources, several Tollywood heroes have converted their huge amounts of black money into gold.

It is a known fact that most of the heroines and wives of these heroes have extreme liking for gold and diamond jewellery. So, soon after Modi made the announcement banning 500 and 1000 denominations, most of these film personalities rushed to the gold and jewellery merchants with their huge cash reserves and got them converted into gold and diamonds.

It was evident from the reports that the turnover of gold and diamond merchants had run into hundreds of crores on Wednesday. Needless to say, a major share of this turnover belongs to the film personalities!

No flow of quick money in Tollywood!

Normally, there is a flow of liquid cash of not less than Rs 1 crore in the Tollywood every day for various petty expenses. And most of this money is only in black.

Now that there is a ban on big notes and the government keeping an eagle eye on cash transactions, there will be serious cash crunch in the Telugu film industry for at least another two months because there are restrictions on cash withdrawals from banks even to meet day-to-day expenditure.

There is no such problem for studies and recording theatres, since the payments are generally made in cheques. But what about payments to junior artistes, daily wages and other miscellaneous expenses? Since there are restrictions even on ATM withdrawals, there is going to be serious cash problem.

So, it is unlikely that small and medium budget films would go on with their shootings as per the schedules.

Forget records, Tollywood!

First-day records are very important for any film these days. Fans of a hero or heroine go by these records to assess the success of their films.

And there is a secret behind these first-day records. Apart from across the counter collections, the producers tend to show the fixed hires and theatre advances as part of the first-day revenue. This has become a habit for any film producer to give some hype to his film.

Now, with the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, it is going to be extremely difficult for producers to make such claims on fixed hires and theatre advances.

In fact, it may not be so easy for producers to recover money from buyers, who in turn have to face difficulty in getting money from exhibitors. So, there is no way one has to bank on first-day records!
