4 days - 4 cites, covered - New York, Boston, Chicago and SFO. Never been to the first 3 cities before. First things first, what awesome weather. "On a clear day, you can see forever" as they say was in clear visibility, punning aside. For all those folks who want to return to India, cutting aside the emotional stuff, you are seriously putting your kids health at risk by returning to India. Why would anyone want to return to India to live in this foul, polluted air. Ultimately when one drills down to it - what man needs is just clean air, clean water and clean food. And it was amply clear why many don't want to return to India. Cities - I thought i would like New York the most, but ended up liking whatever i saw of Chicago, atleast the downtown area. Wide roads, huge avenues, nice and open spaces. New York looked quite dated for the most part. Partly i liked Chicago because of the Dark Knight feeling that was hanging around me like a cloud. Airports - JFK airport looked really dated after seeing the new Indian airports, so are the other airports. O Hare looks like Bombay Churchgate station at office time. Food - of the ones i have been to: 1) Fig and Olive - Chicago - fantastic fresh food, nice setting, great twist on usual stuff -must try - all their crostinis and salads 2) Legal harborside - nice seafood, especially lobsters, terrible waiting times, fried octopus and calamari were nice 3) Porto Leggero - Jersey city - wonderful Italian food, mushroom soup, halibut are good safe picks 4) Waterbar - SFO - good location, nice oysters collection 5) Amber - SFO - average Indian food at prices that are costlier than many of the above. 6) Jerry Remy - Boston - aa serving sizes enti aa, aa uncooked chicken enti ra... Elections - almost everyone i met - from taxi drivers to corporate folks, were either anti Trump and in many cases just awfully apologetic about how someone like Trump is even a presidential candidate.. Ending rant again - if you are in the US, stay put, go to the park, read a book, go to some museums, cycle, play, breathe... |
