References to Kashmir have been contained but you cannot eradicate them totally, when a good number of Kashmiris want Independance. If there was no lobbying on behalf of India, then kashmir issue would have received the same amount of Interest like the Middle East issues. The point is - Earlier it was India which set the agenda....India meddled in the internal affairs of Pakistan and broke that country into two. This strategy paid off handsomely - otherwise having Pakistan on both East and West would have been harmful. But a by product of that was - Pakistan started playing the Punjab and kashmir cards and they were successfull in Kashmir. While partially containing it (in a wrong manner), the previous Indian govts have always set the agenda - they resorted to ceasefire violations -incursions- they started pumping in money to support the Balochistan movement Pakistan was reacting to India's moves and there was a successful perception created that Pakistan is an INDIA CENTRIC state....Pakistan had no other basis for existence. And now - the opposite has started - India is talking about reacting - responding - giving it back...and Pakistan has started about GDP - For the first time ever - they are touching 5% GDP growth :-) | ||

Is this the objective or is it defeating the militants? These ops to avenge Uri, is just beginning of a game that India has decided to join at Pakistan's provocation. It is not the end, just the beginning. If the Indians think that - this pilli bithiri operation will force Pakistan to shut down it's Militant training camps overnight - it is height of foolishness. So the objective seems to be Punjab and UP.. In Punjab - 15 Lakh people in the border villages have been asked to relocate to campls. NOT in Rajastan, Gujarat and J&K - all of which have larger borders - but only in Punjab. And elections posters hailing this as a great victory have sprung up in UP & Punjab. So the great Indian public - should decide - Is this what they want? Is this a better strategy than the one adopted by all the previous governments? And please remember - Incidentally - right from 1948, India has been winning all major wars and most of the minor "wars" against Pakistan. In 1971 - successfully broke up Pakistan into 2 countries. | ||

Should covert ops like "surgical strikes" be publicized? Every elected PM has to take an oath of secrecy related to defense matters. And till 2014, all PMs have followed this rule. The current PM has set a new precedent. Should India continue this oath to secrecy? Since 2009, India has been training and sending militants into Pakistan (Balochistan) - but have denied this vehemently in the International forums. Now, the rulers are publicly acknowledging that India is indeed active in Balochistan. Is this the way to go? |
