try chesaru but the competitive edge that India has vis-a-vis English proficiency and volumes is unbeatable. China is even running English language teaching courses for years now but nothing has come out of it. Nuvve antunnav kada current blue collar jobs ani so the day you lose out that edge the jobs will surely go elsewhere. Till then kpos are not going anywhere. Offshoring concept ki untapped market potential ki link anedi ledu. It's just about bottom line and seamless transition due to language proficiency. You can't be more wrong. We put emphasis on English because that's the language of business world over and India being a service based economy can't do away with it like manufacturing based economies. If you think the soft power that these Indian CEOs posses is useless then just compare the reception that Indian PMs have been getting post 2000. It's not like Clinton, bush & obum have suddenly woken up and swallowed the biggest democracy pill. You want to compare yourself to blue collar workers and feel good about that then so be it. Rather than being defensive about what has been said one can always spin it around and make ourselves better but will it help us in the longer run? The reason why we still follow English rules is because these so called leaders learned their language. I never understood what good the number of CEOs India produced has done to India. As an Indian you should be happy if the so called scum is diluting the quality pool of USA there by concentrating the quality pool of INDIA. In this day and age, with the proliferation of western media influences in popular culture, to not be able to communicate well in English is just plain intellectual laziness and sometimes it is just tardiness in typing or speaking. 100-150 years back people like Gandhi, Ambedkar studied in small villages and grew to write wonderfully in English. They could not have gone to any better English schools than most here. It is a just a deep rooted malaise that has set in with many talentless hacks going to the US and diluting the overall quality pool out there. Most of these people who have gone to the US of late are content with the current situation, with what one is doing and earning and a lack of ambition and passion. One is not expected to become a brilliant writer or orator but typing out simple mails is no way difficult. To hide behind the veil of arguments like Japanese or French do not speak English is just specious. As a developing country we should strive harder and aspire for more. We have not yet reached a stage where we can •••• a snook at these notions. One of the reasons why India has produced more CEOs of big Fortune 500 companies than countries like China is because of our strong communication in English. To think it is useless is just fooling ourselves. | ||

not sure how it is now, about 20 years ago, univ.s used to give an english proficiency exam to international MS students upon their arrival. If they do not pass that exam, then they were required to take a college level English intro class. Most desi students would clear this exam, but I failed and had to take one of those English class.  | ||
