First things first... NTR should be commended for not interfering with the making of the movie. Next, Koratala should be praised for not trying to play to the galleries. Finally, Samantha and Nitya should do some quality introspection on how they select scripts. Janatha Garage has many positives. NTR and Mohanlal are amazing. So was Ajay in his brief but important role. There's an attempt to show the importance of respecting Mother Nature. Full marks to them just for that. The movie has a great premise and is amazing till about half way into the narration. That's when it starts losing steam. While there are no boring moments in the second half, it feels a tad too long and a bit too pointless. The villain must be the dumbest and most harmless bad guy to graze the silver screen in a long time. He comes up with convoluted and utterly pointless ways to kill his opponent when there are simpler means available - like sending a guy with a pistol to Janatha Garage! The climax, though some many not like it, is one of the better ones I have seen. At least there is a reason for the violence you see in that portion of the movie. And the end is satisfactory. While the songs were all shot nicely, the one song you pray that it doesn't end - is the item song of the movie featuring a drop dead gorgeous Kajal Agarwal. She has never looked better; never danced better and appears to be having all the fun in the world. Amazing grace in her dance. That brings us to the leading ladies of the movie who lead nothing much of course. They are practically unnecessary. However, this is a Telugu movie and so the presence of heroine is a must. That explains Samantha. However, there is no excuse for Nithya Menon's role. Both Koratala as well as Nithya need to do some soul searching for sure. Watch it once for NTR and Mohanlal. Watch it twice for Kajal. But if you go there into the auditorium expecting to see an NTR movie with loads of entertainment, you are going to be completely disappointed. |
