The death toll might go up as reports are coming in from other districts. As monsoon rains reached across Bihar on Tuesday evening, at least 38 people were killed and 25 others were injured in last 24 hours, the State disaster management department said on Wednesday. The department's Principal Secretary Vyasji said that the government would provide Rs. 4 lakh compensation to the next kin of each victim. The worst affected districts are Patna (5), Nalanda (4) Purnia (4), Kaimur(4), Rohtas (4), Sharasha (3), Katihar (3), Buxar (2), Samastipur (2), Muzaffarpur (2), Munger (2) and Bhojpur (1), Madhepura (1) and Kishanganj (1). Five people were killed in Bihta area of Patna district. The death toll might go up as reports are coming in from other districts, department officials said. Four persons are also said to be killed in Aurangabad district due to lightning strike, while one more was killed in Saran district. According to a rough estimate altogether 46 people have been killed in lightning strike in Bihar. "We're still getting the details of deaths due to lightning from District Magistrates of other districts too...it will take some time to reach a final figure of toll due to lightning strike in the State in last 24 hours", said Mr. Vyasji. Monsoon rains have been lashing Bihar from Tuesday evening and thunderbolts are striking at regular intervals.
