I amn't disputing the official number, just their methodology. Take out gig economy jobs and relate to employment in the fields for which grads have prepared, you'll get the real picture. don't you think you are being more reckless than press by throwing unsubstantiated numbers Official unemployment is the verified number and defined metric we have. What eve flaws it may have that is what is used for tracking. The way it is calculate is consistent so serves the comparison purpose adequately . Also people don't generally take any number and run with it. Generally, real unemployment is estimated at 2 times official number. We don't have a decent metric than official unemployment number. there is a great scene in Castaway movie at the end on this same issue...when Tom Hanks is rescued finnaly, Fedex throws a party for him and tonnes of food (sea food like crab legs, etc) is left at the end of the party..and TH looks at the leftover food and the look on his face says it all knowing the struggle he had to go through..it a such a great scene and handled so well by the director.
