Story of Madhura: seems to be in detail So before Aam Aadmi Party made a record of its sort by getting most number of deposit forfeitures in the Lok Sabha elections 2014, the ignominious record was held by one Doordarshi party that was floated in 1980’s by the cult Godman named Jai Gurudev. The same Jai Gurudev whose disciples were in the eye of the mayhem at Mathura. So, by the time of death, Baba had amassed a fortune of 1200 crore rupees and over 250 luxury cars. Prominent amongst those who were the claimants to his throne were one Pankaj Yadav who was the driver of Baba and eventually went onto become his successor at the Jai Gurudev Ashram in Mathura. Second was Uma Shankar Tiwari who was one of the closest disciple of Baba but had to contend with the properties at Gwalior, Indore. The last contender who didn’t get any share in the pie was Ram Vriksha Yadav, the person responsible for the carnage at Mathura. He had the tacit support of Tiwari in their common enmity with Pankaj Yadav and it is suspected that he was providing Ram Vriksha Yadav with men, money and material to destabilise the empire of Pankaj Yadav at Mathura. 2 years ago around February 15,2014, Ram Vriksha Yadav started a Satyagraha march from Sagar in Madhya to Jantar Mantar, Delhi with a weird set of demands and secured the permission to do a dharna en route at Mathura for just 2 days at posh 280 acres land belonging to the state forest department. Yadav turned those 2 days into 2 years. Unauthorized occupation of the prime Government land led to the rounds of judicial hearings in which the Allahabad High Court finally asked the District Administration to get the land vacated. 2 years of inaction by the District and State authorities had emboldened the confidence of the Swadheen Bharat Subhash Sena, the militia of the faction led by Ram Vriksha Yadav called Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrah. He made a huge cult following by raising demands like selling of petrol at 40 litres per rupee and diesel at 60 litres per rupee. Apart from that he also sought cancellation of the posts of President and PM of India, restoring of the INA currency and its banking system, a country wide ban over Cow slaughter etc. Over the two years, he ensured that the Jawahar Bagh had some 1500 to 2000 satyagrahis at any time. He set up toll booths to check the nationality of the visiting officials. He even had the audacity to deface the Bungalow of the Mathura DM by writing his set of demands in its wall. All across, the park, they had made watch towers over trees to keep a track over the people visiting Jawahar Bagh. Yadav made 8 lakh rupees a year by selling the products like fruits, vegetables that grew in the bagh and belonged to the state government. Yadav accumulated a huge cache of weapons that include automatic and semi-automatic rifles, country made revolvers, grenades, Molotov cocktails etc. The Local Intelligence inputs had guarded against his activities in early 2015 which was when the DGP headquarters sought some 25 companies of reserve police to take on Yadav and his sena. Amidst the growing nuisance by the encroachers, the police made another half-hearted attempt a few months ago which resulted in the brutal bashing of the police inspector Kunwar Pal Singh. With the complete evacuation of the Bagh in mind, the police started its operations on 2nd June. Despite the recee and the mock drills, the police were unprepared for an attack from the followers of Ram Vriksha Yadav (who had now assumed the sobriquet of Swayambhu Samrat). First stones were pelted and then they fired at the police. Such was the accuracy of the shots that got fired that the Farah SHO, Santosh Yadav got hit in between the eyes while the Mathura City SP, Mukul Dwivedi got hit in his head proving that Sena men had been receiving regular arms training. The brawl left 24 dead overall which includes 22 ordinary civilians dead apart from 2 policeman. The whereabouts of Ram Vriksha Yadav and his associates remain unknown. Some 300 people have been taken into custody and nobody is sure whether Ram Vriksha Yadav is even allowed or not. Ram Vriksha Yadav had started the plotting of the Jawahar Bagh so that he can sell them and raise funds. The entire operation has exposed the lethargic attitude of the state government who for whom it seems the entire state has shrunk to just Etawah, Mainpuri and the potato belt which happens to be the land of the ruling clan of Uttar Pradesh. The state police stands exposed on its ability to take on armed and resilient goons. They are not only short on confidence but also training, skills, protective gear, intelligence, correspondence and operational freedom. The state police needs a rejig from the top to bottom and before that can happen, the state administration needs a changeover that can take over any law and order situation without a jaundiced eye. | ||
