My take - very practical - it's a tale created to encourage/ incentivize people to do namajapam or continually think of God.. Even in the last min, If the guy realized his mistake about the wrong path he took.. and then uttered 'narayana' word in the name of God.. then the story makes perfect sense and gives good motivation for ppl to change/realize their mistakes.. it is never too late... I am not an expert but basic premise of the story is its never too late to get back to good or gods way. As humans we err. Except for few rushis, we sin and move away from righteous path. So imagine if you moved away but knowing that you can never get back will be disheartening. Some might go reverse as in oka murder chesinA vuri ee vanda murder chesinA ure ani. In this case Ajamila indeed had great purushardha until he got carried away, ( free will ) that made him utter the word "Narayana" else he wouldn't have said it irrespective of his sins. God always gives chance to correct people every time. Only few utilizes it. Vishnu's guys says.. In his last breath he called out to the God "Naarayanaa" and whoever leaves this world by remembering the god in the last minute are given moksha.. Yama's team says, He named his last son "Naarayana".. he was very fond of his last son.. so he called out for his son in the last min... he was not calling for god Vishnu team: It doesn't matter.. Pronouncing Narayana's name in the last min is good enough to get rid of all sins and attain moksha Yama's team gets stunned... This is a real story (Ithihaasa - Idi ilaage jariginadi) I am kind of confused as to what is the morale of this story.. i am sure we have experts here who can help me understand it. ____________________________________________ Anaganagaa oka roju... One guy was in his death bed.. during his last breath he called out for his son with his name and then left this world. Couple of yama doothas came to take him to hell.. when they were about to take him away.. some angels (vishnu doothas) came and told yama's assistants that they can't take him. Yama's guys said, "why r u stopping us? he is a great sinner.. he should go to hell" Vishu's team said, "no, u can't take him.. we came here to take him to heaven.." So yama's team started explaining the guy's story... This guy was born in vedic Brahmin family and grew up learning all vedas and other sacred texts.. he became expert. He used to follow Dharma to the T.. When the time came, he married a nice girl and started living happy married life.. followed all dharma's of Grihastha aashramam... All was well until one day.. That fateful day, he was going through the forest and saw a beautiful young women making love to another guy...both of them were drunk and ejoying... he thought of turning his head away and walk away from there but he couldn't.. he was amused by the way pretty lady was making love to the guy.. and he thought i wish i could have such experience.. i wish she would make love to me Cut chesthe.. He leaves his wife, forgets all his dharmas for this girl.. he starts enjoying with the girl everyday... after some time he starts drinking to enjoy more.. after some more time he starts robbing people who travel through forest and gets the gifts/money to keep her happy... bottom line he becomes completely opp person and does countless sins He lives his rest of the life with that girl enjoys sex life, drinking etc all the way till he becomes 88 years old During this time he becomes father of 10 kids through her.. He doesn't repent any of his acts till the last breath Yama's guys ask Vishnu's team "Why do you think he earned his ticket to heaven when he did so many sins through out his life..
