It is easy to blame NRI's as distance adds to the list of typical parent/kids relationship problems. Also, here everyone is talking about Sons & their parents. No one is addressing problems of Daughters & their parents. How many people here who are arguing about it is sons duty to take care of their parents discuss about daughters and their parents plight. What is some parents only have daughters but no sons. Bottom line is it all depends on the upbringing and circumstances. Every kid has a responsibility to take care of parents in their old age. There is NO TEXT BOOK defined way of taking care (this is THE WAY ane vidhamga). All that has to be done is both parents & kids and their families need to work out a way that works BEST for their situation. | ||

It is our responsibility to take care of our parents and on the other hand we should be prepared to take care of ourselves when we retire(at least monetary). So, I would suggest save yourself for your retirement and don't expect that your kids will take care of you. When there is no money expectations, relationships will be more stronger. | ||

I have not read the case from the mentioned link, as I cant in my office... But, to speak by just taking that parents committed suicide for kids not looking after them is complicated... I think all the parties involved have to work together for the betterment of the situation and if not possible better level their expectations to reality..
