Filmbuff:Approved by Congress...which he does not control...
half truths .. and if you keep peddling them .. that makes you a Obama apologist, which I hope you dont want to be identified as!
quote:Pakistan's Dawn newspaper has reported that a state department spokesman, Mark Toner, said at a news briefing that US weapon sales to Pakistan contributed to the fight against terrorism and furthered America's foreign policy interests.
Filmbuff:just opening up to Cuba
As wanted by the Pope .. and in the coming years, we will see why was that brought out in such an urgency. Filmbuff:negotiating with Iran
Does that show that US is moving away from Israel? And why is that happening under Obama? Filmbuff:getting the Saudi oil thugs to their knees by opening up fracking
Fracking is more of a republican policy, right from Bush's era and even recently - this is what has happened - http://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/236444-gop-gear s-up-to-fight-obamas-fracking-rules this is from 2011 - http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2011/11/16/republicans-g rill-obama-administration-on-fracking-offshore-lands And plz note - I am not quoting Fox news, the sources are infact leftist! Anyways, will read the Atlantic article later. But I do think, you should certainly think about your judgments on Obama. 99% National - 1% Glocal |

In private encounters with other world leaders, Obama has argued that there will be no comprehensive solution to Islamist terrorism until Islam reconciles itself to modernity and undergoes some of the reforms that have changed Christianity. Though he has argued, controversially, that the Middle East’s conflicts “date back millennia,” he also believes that the intensified Muslim fury of recent years was encouraged by countries considered friends of the U.S. In a meeting during apec with Malcolm Turnbull, the new prime minister of Australia, Obama described how he has watched Indonesia gradually move from a relaxed, syncretistic Islam to a more fundamentalist, unforgiving interpretation; large numbers of Indonesian women, he observed, have now adopted the hijab, the Muslim head covering. Why, Turnbull asked, was this happening? Because, Obama answered, the Saudis and other Gulf Arabs have funneled money, and large numbers of imams and teachers, into the country. In the 1990s, the Saudis heavily funded Wahhabist madrassas, seminaries that teach the fundamentalist version of Islam favored by the Saudi ruling family, Obama told Turnbull. Today, Islam in Indonesia is much more Arab in orientation than it was when he lived there, he said.}} |

Tilak:recent ga F16 lu istunnadu .. what for?
Approved by Congress...which he does not control...it takes phenomenal might to take on the conventional wisdom and foreign policy wonks...just opening up to Cuba and negotiating with Iran, getting the Saudi oil thugs to their knees by opening up fracking etc are all considerable achievements by any standards. What people tend to ignore is that whether in US or UK, your achievements, however considerable on the economic front, can be thrown aside once the body bags start coming home. Take Tony Blair - Britain had one of their longest runs of economic growth under him, he bought the decades old conflict in Ireland to an end but he is now held in contempt for entering into Iraq on wrong advice. Obama does not want such a legacy.

Filmbuff:
and that is the reason his approval ratings are what they are. I did not vote for Obama first time fearing his liberal stand. But if you take first 5 years of his tenure, he was nothing but compromise. His liberal base was really mad with his stand. He showed results. I don't understand need for revolution.. Left or right.. I think America needs minor corrections not over haul. |

Filmbuff, Long read indeed ... Read about 2/3rds savng the rest for later.. Thank you ! Everything I admire about the man and more in one article .. His insights, his measured circumspect responses and his analyses ..his understanding and clear articulation of the dynamics, hopes and fears .. His approval rating climbing now is just a recognition from the people that they did not know how good they had it The very thought of a Trump or a Cruz in that space is depressing to say the least The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet : James Oppenheim |

http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2016/04/the-obam a-doctrine/471525/ A very very long read, must be ready by all Obama fans and especially his haters - he privately questions why Pakistan, which he believes is a disastrously dysfunctional country, should be considered an ally of the U.S. at all - but he has also questioned, often harshly, the role that America’s Sunni Arab allies play in fomenting anti-American terrorism. He is clearly irritated that foreign-policy orthodoxy compels him to treat Saudi Arabia as an ally -“dropping bombs on someone to prove that you’re willing to drop bombs on someone is just about the worst reason to use force.” - Those who speak with Obama about jihadist thought say that he possesses a no-illusions understanding of the forces that drive apocalyptic violence among radical Muslims, but he has been careful about articulating that publicly, out of concern that he will exacerbate anti-Muslim xenophobia Contrast this deep and intellectual thinking before major decisions and put that alongside an jokers like Donald Trump. You shudder to imagine what he would do in similar scenarions. In fact, reading the article, one has misgivings that Clinton is going to be much more interventionist than Obama |
