Exactly, when people accused right wing - Sangh/BJP/ABVP of anti-Dalit mindset, people had no clue Rohit was a Dalit. They actually tried to manufacture a controversy on caste lines. It was not really a fight between Rohit and Right wing. Bcoz no one knows, if their grand mother is mistreating Rohit's mother bcoz of caste and that affected Rohit and that is why he joined ASA and did all those "leftist/secular movements" on HCU campus over the years. There were all looked at an ideological level and there ends the matter, without an inkling of his caste/his background. My sympathies are with Rohit, who might have undergone hell in life, if the story here is true. However, with such a background, he made very wrong friendships and very very wrong associations on HCU campus, it seems. Even on HCU issue, there is no objective justification for the perceived injustice to SCs. Weren't any such misdeeds as beating someone, or indiscipline, done by OBCs or FCs ? And, if so, was the management lenient to them, or was the punishment less severe? In general, what I see is that there is no unity among FCs in such institutions, and they don't fight as unitedly as SCs or BCs. Also, only incidents involving SCs or BCs are highlighted in the media, more often than not. Of course, BJP should not absolve itself of being irresponsible having ministers fingering in internal university issues. | ||

OT, I agree that there are millions like this, and am not supporting what he did. Being well educated, he should hv motivated himself from stories of ppl who succeeded in life against similar odds. And, of course being involved in ASA/ABVP politics with some questionable rants/actions is another black mark. 1. Keeping his Yakub Memon angle aside, the HT article is not about HCU politics - but on his family history and childhood - which seems to be believable. Guess the main motivation for his suicide seems to be this background rather than the HCU issue.
