The best way to handle this **in my opinion** would have been a well articulated statement by government spokesperson in the lines of
" we are sorry Mr. Khan felt that way. There is absolutely no intolerance that creeped in last 6- 8 months. We want reiterate government strongly endorses tolerance . In the event of any act of intolerance, government will act strongly. Safety of citizens is top priority"
I feel this kind of approach is inclusive, it puts the onus back on Ak to prove intolerance and will also have addressed intolerance very effectively
