Why compare with intolerance with other religion? Approaching it from the value systems that you learned from your religion enhances your practice of religion, propagates it's greatness and shows that as a community you are evolving and modernising. That moment, when you compare with other religion, the entire essence of what your religion stands for is lost. There are ways to defend your religious practices by effectively countering the critics, through legislation, courts, strengthening institutions, media etc. For ex, everyone demands for uniform civil code.
