both of them correct. compared to other top univs, UNC-CH has lowest in-state fee and also NC is not a good place. NC lo best ante UNC-CH and NCSU-R is ok but not that great. So only considering public univs, you have only one option in NC that is UNC-CH. UNC ranking is 30 in USA. Becuase UNC is affordable, there will be tough competition and acceptance rate is only 25%. It will be difficult for both in-state and out-of-state at UNC. | ||

For me I will ask my kids to do well in entrance test like SAT etc., If kid gets good school good. If not light.. I want my kid to be healthy with good character, get married to proper person and lead peaceful life with enough money. Hopefully whatever I save will be useful to them. yes you are right. I was looking at bit old data. UMich-AnnAarbor has almost 53% out of state students. Overall, there is much competition for UCB, UCLA because these are top 2 public univs in USA. But other UCs are not that bad and we have more options like UCSD etc. My argument is that because CA has many public univs which are good (top 100, ranking includes top private univs also), CA is better when compared to TX, NC etc which have two in top 100 univs | ||

You have to be in the top 6 percent to be accepted into UT Austin and then be in the top 1000 or so applicants to get into the major of your choice and then top 50-200 applicants to get in the elite honors programs - so yeah it's pretty stressful...A&M is top 10 percent - rest are easier to get into.. Also, it is very difficult to be in top 10% if the school is good. The chances of being in top 10% is more if the student is in average performing school. Indians generally tend to be in good school district so that it becomes difficult for all of them to be in top 10% in high school. Strategy, preparation plays a lot to get into a goid school. | ||

UCLA is sports oriented. So, the sports guys have lesser GPA and SAT scores. One would need 2300 SAT and 4.3+ GPA for under grad if you are in-state. Out of state student. may have lesser scores, but they pay 22K+ more than instate tuition. Also, check the number of applicants and acceptance rate which is very low for UCLA compared to Berkeley. | ||

UCLA statistics prakaram: majority of the admissions had a GPA over 3.6, an SAT score (CR+M+W) above 1700. I think this kind of score is easy to get for desi kids. UCB not sure but you can see that if you can get admission in UCLA you can get any of the other UCs (except UCB) with the similar scores. | ||

NC, TX are boku places if you dont want to stress your kids and at the same time you dont want to stress out for saving $$ for private univs. TX and NC have two notable public univs each in top 100 univs. For normal IT koolies, with one kid it may be ok to afford private univs but with multiple kids, best is CA. | ||

you can argue that we can move to NC and with that extra money (that you may spend in CA RE) you send the kids to IVY private univs. This is partially true as your kid will be enough tortured to secure seat in ivy league school. so if you want to give freedom to kids u better move to CA. | ||

They are good and completed education in the college where they were sent . However I know 4 kids who did not fare well and returned to community colleges or local colleges.
