IS he formally diagnosed with ASD by a qualified pediatrician? If yes, I strongly suggest you take him to therapy rather than regular day care. Regular day care can be very stressful for ASD kids. Earlier is the better for therapy. Your ped must have told you this. You can try those things at home IF you have time. Many ABA centers offer parent training, you can attend them. If they are around other kids, even though they dont seem to pay attention to those kids, they actually do. Work lo kooda, after colleagues got to know from other colleagues who are close to me, they slowly started reaching out to me on their kids. I see many parents are not very comfortable in accepting it, but autism IS a disorder. The communication centers in the brain, and some times cognition centers too are underdeveloped for the age resulting in abnormal or subnormal functionality in kids. There is a range because the underdevelopment of brain varies among kids. When I say underdevelopment, its not the gross anatomic part, but the synapses and links among neural cells are not formed the way they were supposed to form. first thing is Autism is not like a disease vunkl... its a spectrum with a range. when doc or whoever said about it, they might have mentioned that he is in the spectrum. chaala huge range idhi. some seemingly trivial traits also seem to be in the spectrum and need additional follow up - so dont get too tensed and try to stay out of emotion when making decisions(even though its hard). we approached the state's intervention programs - typically pediatrician refer chesthaaru. you will need to get an appointment where they evaluate both physical and mental abilities and compare with others in the age group, based on that they provide further steps. in my kids case they suggested therapy sessions weekly to start with, and after 4 months evaulated again and increased to once for two weeks. during this time they give us suggestions as to how go handle problematic situations. | ||

ABA without insurance is a huge toll. Usually company based insurances wont cover ABA, at least from what I heard. You need to purchase individual insurance. Because new enrollment period wont start until this october, it might be difficult to get new insurance at this time. Hello parents - update on my kid. we moved state and trying to get appointments with intervention programs in the new state. he has been improving continuously although he is yet to make pretend play with other kids. he does not play with other kids, but seems to miss them when they are not around. went to barnes and nobles and was playing with the trains. the store was closing and he started throwing tantrums. got him into the car and he was repeating his friends name "want to go to A", "Want to go to B" and looking at me. his speech and vocabulary has increased considerably. this morning i brushed his teeth and asked him to spit - he spit and said "want to rinse with water". no issues with eating, fortunately not have had issues with it so far. He started pointing at things and now walks with me listening to instructions- he started following the instructions even if he doesnt like them(first time this morning). I take him on a walk with my dog every morning. when he is confused about something he looks at others(usually elders) for directions and in the last month says "help". Therapist says he improved much more than what they expected and asking us to give him more responsibilities. he still can get stuck in repeated things. like pulling drapes up and down, getting cranky if you stop him from doing it. but I am able to divert him by doing something else that is interesting. like saying "lets go for walk, get your shoes". it takes some repetitions but eventually he lets it go and goes to get his shoes. all the strength to you guys. Hope everything works out well for these kids. | ||

Yes he stays at therapy center 8 to 4, 5 days a week. Insurance is covering currently. But they say policies are changing from next year, so getting prepared for it. Schedule ante they keep monthly targets and work on them. They focus on basic communication skills - hand waiving, saying hi bye, eye contacts, pointing, simple puzzles, simple group activities etc. Of course they also do potty training. Ok brother. She loves her weekend OT sessions - she takes me to the door on weekends (may be her mind got tuned to it) and made some progress there. ABA at home got messed up after we requested a second therapist and we actually feel she regressed and started throwing tantrums. We are going back to one therapist and trying for more hours (from 14 to 20). Her lack of speech is a concern, so we have to start that as well - got approved for 60 sessions for one year. Not sure how we can find time for all this Overall some progress and lot more to be done. How is your kid doing? Hope someone finds a "cure" to this. Try 'now' melatonin which doesn't has Benzoic acid or any other preservatives as far as I know. But I dont think Benzoic acid kills bacteria. Probiotics we haven't tried anything extensively but I have heard a lot of good things about Culturelle. How is she doing btw? Don't text and drive ! | ||
