The very fact that you chose the weakest part of Lakshya as its part shows how hard you are trying to make an argument. That is where the movie actually fell apart. Until that the movie was going well, all the scenes in Delhi and songs were good. But once the movie shifted to the war scenes, the movie just blew up. "CGI use for rock climbing is called cinematography anta" - etidhi CGI is called cinematography. CGI in Lakshya is just horrrendous. There are hundred holes you can pick in Bahubali - try different angles. | ||

I think most critics in Telugu were fair. But people liked film regardless. Hype mattered. Few Telugu media people said this is not the time to bring up negatives. A lot of these are covered in this thread. I think with some director, sympathy factor exists. No one would want Bahubali to lose revenue. Three years of hard work. Only issue is that same people aren't so kind to smaller films. | ||

The best shot was when Prabhas motivates his team not to turn back and they go for the final attack...The pace at which camera moves to show that Prabhas and his team are attacking on horses was the best, I felt. Bro, I am not sure what are the yard sticks for a world class cinematography, but my reference to Lakshya is on few parameters : Christopher Popp used the background so effectively without disrupting the characters playing. Also, the lighting was apt with mood of the scene. For Eg : 1. The 1st half were Hrithik is lazy spolit brat from an affluent family and the surroundings in Delhi. Also the shot in the beginning where he stands near the Beas river from where the flashback starts. Truly Amazing !! 2. Second Half the Himalayas and Karil peak points were stupendous. Specially the night battle in Kargil under sub zero temparatures has the feel of you being in center of action. 3. Finally the CGI used for rock (cliff) climbing...now that is called CINEMATOGRAPHY..Not moving is at high speed which was required in Bahubali only for chase sequcenes & horse riding. Lakshya was best along with Zindagi Na Mile Doobara, Dil Chata Hain etc., But top notch is always PC Sreeram, Santosh Sivan & Shiva movie (not sure who he was).
Thammi I never said MD was hit due to RCT. I only debated that RCT did put honest effort to showcase his strengths like horse riding, dances and base voice for that 100 fight scene. He might not look big like Prabhas but he justified his role as Kala Bhairava. MD was HIT only because of SSR.
Rajamouli thrives only on REVENGE DRAMA synced with Technology. He has not proven any genre yet other than that. Once he proves like Shanker in couple of different scripts, then we will know if it is BUBBLE OR DRAIN | ||

Rajamouli moments in the movie: 1. Shivalingam teese scene and follow up song - 5 mins 2. Shivudu climbing waterfalls (usage of Dheevara song) - 5 mins 3. Shivudu entering kota and follow up statue scene - 10-15 mins 4. Adavi sesh out and revealing Bahubali scene - 5-10 mins 5. War scene - 15-20 mins ee 45 mins - 1 hour was critical for him, indulo he succeeded well on these scenes, except for war scene where he is average as we have seen MD, for those who have not seen MD it is also good... Kreem BGM is haunting, especially the interval block one... Movie is not at the hype that its getting but definitely not bad as well...It could reach the expectations to a larger extent... Follow up BB-2 will be largely waited in Hindi and Tamil for the best they have seen in this, it will be waited in Telugu as we see it as our pride and which can take our bar further up, its a win-win for RM for BB2. BB2 will be a 100150Cr product at the minimum, and overall Bahubali will give 400 crores easily back into producers | ||

Until he finishes narration, sivudu has nothing much to do other than chopping off heads (hope tamanna's is the next turn). By having narrated flash back, he made part if the characters passive.... Baga rasav bedar. Hype chesintha ledu, but still a very good commendable effort from our telugu industry. Character full arc, story ekkuva lekapovadam is due to 2 parts. First he wants to do it in 1 film, but script antha ayina tarvatha it came to 5 hrs. Then they thought we need to do it 2 films, otherwise they cant do justice. Thats why you see much of the film just trying to establish characters. Hopefully in the 2 part we will see the full blown arc. Your other critisim of locales, setting is unfair. Disclaimer - I have no caste feelings and not sharing my view with partiality to Mega-Family or hatred to others. For all the hype surrounded to Bahubali, I went to the movie theater after 8 months to watch this. Went along with my north Indian friend (he loved it). But here is my view (yes, mine does not make any difference because world has declared it as a MASSIVE INDUSTRY HIT), but I am sure there are few people like me who do not believe the HERD mentality and voice my opinion : 1. SS Rajamouli - Where is the Story ? Where is the characterization ? Where is the EMOTIONAL CONNECT with the characters ? You spent 3 years to bring waterfalls (Anji lo waterfalls were much better and believable), castles like Egypt & Greece, and landscapes (Red sand, greenery and then snow like Artic) which are not in sync with the era & area this story is set up... If 1st part is the foundation for the REVENGE of Shivudu character, then you should have shown the story from Devasena's eyes. The 25 years wait should arouse our anger and wait for Shivudu to take revenge on Bhallaldev in 2016. It is so abruptly cut and told to us to come next year to see what happened...Non-Sense. Except Kattappa, none of the characters oozed emotions. It was only muscles beefed up and external picture perfect looks given to all. I had no emotional connect with any character (even Ramyakrishna character is nothing but being Stern & Loud). 100 feet statue scene, battle for last 20 mins are the only ones which had the true SSR touch. I adore SSR for his story telling capabilities (His Chatrapathi 1st half & Magadheera 2nd half were MUCH STRONGER than this much hyped movie). 2. Rana / Prabhas - Excellent looks like warriors. Treat to watch them. But again acting wise they are far below average. Not even one scene where you felt wow. Tamanna & Anushka - The less we talk, the better it is. Sudeep was just a wood like expression (stunned that is he the same guy who acted in Eega). Nazeer - Just to laugh loudly to show he is a bad boy. Laughing on battle field as if he was watching IPL. And those costumes were like DRAMA COMPANY stuff. Horrible colours used. 3. MM Keeravani - He gave the best RR for all SSR movies almost on par with Illayraja. But this movie, it was so inconsistent. No theme music for any scene. Very big let down. Songs were boring. 4. Senthil - Herd Mentality ante idhe mari.. Just because two movie crtics said it is top-notch, everyone started saying the same. Almost all shots are top angle with drone moving fast. It is so irritating to see waterfalls, avalanche, battle episode, castle, kingdom - all from top as if I am sitting in a helicopter. Camerawork which elevated the scenes ante in the recent past, watch Lakshya movie (Done by a German Cinematographer - will know how the battle scenes and Himalayas are captured). 5. CGI - Even Ajooba in 1990 had scenes of taking the camera across the kingdom. The ones which were great displayed CGI on screen diluting it. And the ones which are poor were so funny, like Prabhas jumping scenes (in the kingdom & Waterfalls). Bison Fight was hopeless...Even Chiru's Rustum, Apadhbandhavudu and even Jodha Akbar where Hrithik tames an elephant was more effective. 6. Finally TELUGU PUBLIC - Yes, for Hindi & Tamil crowds, this is 1st time they are tasting SSR movie in full..so they are bound to go GA GA...But mana crowd saying this is the best is like we saying A R Rehaman's Jai Ho song is the best anni (just because he got an Oscar for that). Agreed we should be proud that a Telugu movie has done wonders globally, but do not fool yourself with collections and say it is a great epic. With so much hype and so many theatres and with the GOOD WILL of SSR, movie will get hundreds of crores..but can we cannot put this a CLASSIC. Only good thing about this Bahubali Phenomena is like RGV said, the HERO WORSHIP and making Heros as DEMI GODS will now see the downward trend. It is the CAPTAIN OF THE SHIP - Director who is going to hog the limelight. Let the bubble burst and many will agree that Raju Hirani & Shankar are still the TOP 2 directors who can blend emotions with their story telling capability. SSR for now should take the bronze medal. Happy that one from Telugu is considered as the best of the best in this country. |
