Yesterday we were talking about Greece crisis and I brought the analogy of India in terms of financial union. Today, Sanjay Baru (Manmohan PO: Accidental Prime minister) wrote an op-ed in the Hindu and he talked about the same in his article- LOL. He did not explicitly mentioned the states, but you can deduce. The success of the Indian Union rests on the fact that the developed regions of the country, and the Union government, have taken upon themselves the responsibility of offering a safety net to the less developed regions. Germany has behaved much in the same way that developed States in India like to when it comes to the question of transferring funds to less developed States. The former usually sermonise the latter on the virtues of industriousness and hard work and blame them for their backwardness. The latter demand all manner of special assistance. The Indian union has the political instruments to deal with such issues.
