You have to stay with same bank/finance for at least 5 years if you pay points. other wise it is not worth it. Do you have second loan or only one loan? if yes, what is the current rate today. 15 year lowest has been 2.75 with standard closing costs. so if you are getting a 15 year loan at 3%, its possible you will not refinance till you have lot of equity. then paying points is worth it. if you have a second loan and you will consolidate loans about 2-3 years, then no points. 1/8 ot 0.125 interest costs you about 40-50 dollars. so in 5 years you will spend, 3000 dollars at max. its not worth to buy a point @5000 or 6000 for this. the story of YCP and TDP in 2014 (AP)- http://goo.gl/zgrYmQ http://goo.gl/gn6XL5 the story of TDP in 2014 (T) - http://goo.gl/nyu1Wu | ||

i did this way....approach almost 5 -6 banks for getting initial quote's based on your credit score. I find quite difference among interest rates/closing cost etc. Unfortunately some banks not giving great rate for H1B Status. | ||
