when you apply you dont have to send original PIO...just pio copies when oci is approved from delhi... then you need to send PIO...1-2 weeks vundadu for that back and forth etc...if that falls in travel plans i have to postpone that getting done... om my sambhooooooooot.. cheptondi adegaa!!! just keep ur PIO with u. travel with it. all set and it becomes life long valid OCI. only thing is when new passport comes (after 5 yrs) have the OCI updated or get new one with new passport number. keep the original passport whose number is on PIO card. carry that while travelling. if u apply for OCI now it replaces the existing PIO. Or if u travel with current PIO it automatically becomes OCI for life due to stamping in indian air-port. Only thing is passport keeps changing. if ur kid has PIO then happily travel.
