The availability of tax or other benefits may be contingent on meeting other requirements. Only the earnings portion of a withdrawal not used to pay for qualified expenses may be subject to federal income tax and a 10% federal penalty tax; the entire amount of the withdrawal may be subject to state and local income taxes.

I am also researching for the past few days about 529 plan...PA529 vaadi website lo unna faq's ni batti I felt its not at all risky...can someone shed light if there are any disadvantages(or catch) of this plan..

As per FAQ:

About Child won't be eligible to receive financial aid if we invest in 529...

FACT: A PA 529 account is not included in determining eligibility for Pennsylvania state financial aid programs. Savings held in other state's 529 plans do not receive this benefit.
For federal financial aid, funds saved in 529 plans are generally considered to be parental assets, which means that only about six percent of these assets are currently counted towards the family's expected contribution in federal need-based financial aid calculations.

TAX Benefit:

What are the income tax benefits of investing in a PA 529 account?
Earnings grow federal income tax-free .Earnings grow tax-deferred and are free from federal income tax when used for qualified higher education expenses.

Earnings grow state income tax-free. For Pennsylvania taxpayers, earnings grow tax-deferred and are free from Pennsylvania state income tax when used for qualified higher education expenses.

Pennsylvania state income tax deduction: Pennsylvania taxpayers can deduct up to $14,000 in contributions per beneficiary per year ($28,000 if married filing jointly, assuming each spouse had income of at least $14,000) from their Pennsylvania taxable income for the purposes of determining their state income taxes.

529 is a good plan. Konni schemes unnai where you can pay for the tuition of a university at today's cost.

Yes...not just this, with parents double income software coolie jobs, it is highly unlikely that desi kids will be eligible for income based scholarships. Kids could get talent based scholarships though, which will not be affected by their 529s.

Besides, taking loans against 401(k) has nothing to do with how you invest your 401(k) money...that loan is being facilitated by your 401(k) provider bank like fidelity or Suntrust or MassMutual or etrade or tdameritrade. Once you open an account with one of these banks, they will give you options on where you can invest your money...thay is the key factor, pick the bank that gives you more good options like vanguard funds which are good for investing.
