Oh yeah, actress was a bit like a bimbo - not a natural comic actress like Katherine Whig (bridesmaids) or Tina Fey or even Apatow's wife who was there in one movie . In fact this girl was the rich babe getting married in Bridesmaids. The Apatow gang movies have been on a downhill slightly but i would rather watch those movies than merchandise comic fare like Avengers or Iron Man etc.

Pitch Perfect 1- not the movie thats currently playing. This is the first one released in 2012... chick flick with lot of acapella songs...strictly DVD movie...nothing great or funny or anything...edo nadusthundhi ante anthe-3/5 for DVD, 2.75/5 theatre lo ayithe PP2 theatre lo avoid seyyali ani decision teesukunna after watching this PIKU- must watch because of AB...to make a movie where every third dialogue is about constipation and motions is no easy task....director deftly balance without grossing auidence out...DP, IK iddaru bagane chesaru but AB steals the movie-3.5/5... MAD MAX- FF series should jump in a spoon full of water after watching this...chase tiyyali ante ila undali...ekkada bore kottakunda minimal dialogue tho movie tiyyali ante idhe....but critics cheppinantha maha dbutham ayithe kaadhu...it is one of the best in recent years but it never jumps into highr plane...Matrix movie undhi choosaru aa level lo ayithe kaadhu...u can watch a few times but not a cult classic.... may be the lack of dialogues have made it that way....hopefully part 2 will have a better stoiryline and explain things better...4/5 | ||

I saw 8 movies over the weekend, 2 short of my best. But considering that i started seeing only from Sat afternoon, not too bad. Ida (Polish) - 1.5/ 5: i expected a lot from this movie considering the rave reviews and the Best Foreign Film Oscar. I found is very average. I get the brouhaha about the compactness, the unsaid things, the black and white sombreness, the catholic nun trying to come to terms with her passions, the Jewish backstory etc. but all in all all too trivial a movie in my view. Movies like Black Narcissus have done the Catholic thingie better 60 years back, and there are dime a dozen holocaust movies too. Drishyam - 3/5 - I had already seen the Malayalam original so did not find it engaging. Dazed and Confused 4/5 - an early Linklater American Graffiti type fun movie. Last day of the year at college, juniors getting beaten up, guys getting stoned, spot on lingo, mannerisms, loved it.. Drug War - Mandarin - 4/5 - nice police procedural about Chinese anti-drug officers chasing down some drug dealers and kingpins. Excellent taut screenplay, nice mood, no diversions from the screenplay and brilliant ending. I liked the lead actor. Frances Ha - 5/5 - rarely does a movie out-Allen Allen in showing New York or its Bohemian lives with its ooh-so-chic discussions about Proust, art galleries, book cafes, streetside eating, background music usage etc. and rarely does a movie out-Rohmer Rohmer in its constant banter. I had not even heard about the movie till last week. The lead actress is brilliant, awesome, she even co-wrote the movie. When she is cycling down the road with the sun and wind in her hair and a smile on her lips, you can feel your heart lighten up. Beautifully photographed, almost like Gordon Willis' work in Manhattan. An absolute must watch. Two days, one night - French - 4/5 - an excellent movie by the famous Dardenne brothers, who have got the Palme D'or three times till date. I did not like the movie made by them earlier though called Infant or something. This one was brilliant though, thanks to an excellent performance by Marion Cotillard. She plays a factory worker coming out of depression who has been fired, but she can get back her job by convincing a majority in her team to take her back in a Monday ballot, though that would mean them losing their bonuses. She goes about meeting all of them over the weekend trying to convince them. My Night with Maud - French - 3.5/5 - where else but in a Rohmer movie do you see discussions about Pascal for 10 minutes apart from several other discussions littered through the movie. But compared to his other works, i found it too meandering and long. Hey, but it's Rohmer. Nice ending, btw. Neighbours - 3.5 - a good funny, gross out Seth Rogen movie. |
