vOizag Babai... Thanks for the content share. Where from you got this content. In general, those agencies(cox&kings etc) sites says BIG BOLD RED letters as MANDATORY, MUST, NOTARIZED etc.. without mind and sense.. In general, there is NO SINGLE NOTARY is required when you take the original and the photo copy of a document to them(they have to verify both and stamp as original verified). Also, no signature needs to be naotarized if you go personally to them and sign infront of them. These morons make us to spend a lot of money without giving proper instructions. They must mention that the notarziation is required only if any paper/signature is submitted without the original or if the petition was signed remotely. When you really go there, they dont care any of these instructions on their site. (example: Passport copy all pages. But they just take the copy of the passport with photo page.) Embassy just tells some outlines of requirements and these morons makes them as MUST RED NOTARIZED blah blah.. Especially for this PIO to OCI, all they need should be the latest passport copy and a new photo, nothing beyond since rest of the circus was done as a part of PIO application before. All they need to check is the latest updates and an updated photo to print on the new OCI card. Not sure when these idiots grow off their knees to brain on the top. (these are the observations from my personal experience in many interactions with the Consulate office for Passports, PIO cards, OCI cards, Life certificates etc) | ||

A person who has not attained the age of 18 years is considered as minor. In case of minor who cannot sign, his/her le thumb impression may be placed in the Signature Box. Parents should not sign on behalf of minors. Signature/Thumb impression should be confined in the prescribed box. In case of minor applicants, parent should NOT sign in the box. Photograph to be affixed on the application should be of square shape of size not less than 51*51mm (with 80% coverage by face). It should have plain light colour background without border with front view of person's head and shoulders showing the full face in the middle of the photograph. It should not be stapled and should not have any signature. Photographs that do not conform to these standards will be rejected and may cause a delay in processing the applications. Please see standards of acceptable photographs as Photo Link. If there are any objections while processing the applications, the same will be displayed on the Online Status Enquiry. Please follow the instructions and send requisite documents to the Indian Mission/ Office where you have applied quoting the File (or Acknowledgement) Number. Part A has to be filled for each applicant of the family and Part B is common for all applicants of the family. After successful registration , copy of Part A and Part B with an online registration number will be printed. Application form on Parts A and B, complete in all respects, along with all relevant enclosures must be submitted to the appropriate office. Enclosures for each applicant: Proof of present citizenship of applicant e.g. copy of Passport / citizenship certificate. In case of applications filed in India, a copy of valid Visa / Residential Permit should also be enclosed. Evidence of self or parents or grandparents or great-grandparents, being eligible to become a citizen of India at the time of commencement of the Constitution i.e. on 26th January, 1950; or belonging to a territory that became part of India after 15th August, 1947; or being citizen of India on or after 26th January, 1950. These could be: Copy of the passport; or Copy of the domicile certificate issued by the Competent Authority ; or Any other proof. Evidence of relationship as parent/grandparent/great-grandparents, if their Indian origin is claimed as basis for grant of Overseas Citizenship of India. OCI registration fee is US$275 for each applicant or equivalent in local currency to be paid by way of demand draft. No registration fee is payable for OCI applications in lieu of Valid PIO cards. However, SMS/Fax/Agent charges, as applicable, will be levied on the applicant. The documents enclosed with the application should be self attested. This form when completed should be submitted in duplicate (both sets must have original photographs and signatures along with enclosures)- In India to the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO), Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Amritsar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Luck now, Kochi, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) and Goa. Outside India, to the Indian Mission/ Post having jurisdiction over the country of which the applicant(s) is a citizen or if he/she is not living in the country of his/her citizenship, to the Indian Mission/ Post having jurisdiction over the country of which the applicant is ordinarily resident. After receipt of application in concerned office, a File (or Acknowledgement) Number would be issued to the applicant by way of acknowledgement. Response from OCI folks - DN Shetty All valid PIO cards as on 9th January 2015 have automatically been extended till LIFELONG consequent upon merger of both schemes. These cards have now been equated with the OCI cards and the restriction for Police registration after 180 days stay has been removed. PIO card holders may get the endorsement on their cards about extended validity from their office of issue or any FRRO in India or Immigration Check posts at Indian airports. Conversion of PIO to OCI is NOT MANDATORY, but voluntary, at present. Applicants are advised to apply for conversion of PIO card to OCI online and submit the application to the same office which issued the original PIO card. This service is being provided on GRATIS basis without any fees. No Signature | ||

The catch is that you need to pay full fee(as per the within 3 months rule) for OCI if you apply AFTER return from India. I am also in the same lines. I am planning to submit the application with the copies of passport and PIO and act dumb. If the send a communication to give those, I will take them to the consulate AFTER my folks returned from India. This means, I will apply and force the application in SLEEP status due to lack of documents. :-) Does this really work? | ||

Date: 09/Feb/2015 Dear OCI/PIO Card holders and other members of the Indian community : Kindly note the following and share the same with other members of the Indian community. (i) Government of India has abolished the PIO Card scheme and converted all the PIO Cards issued prior to 9, January 2015 as OCI Cards. Even though, there is no need to change the PIO Card into OCI Card, the currently held PIO cards are treated as OCI Cards with all the facilities entitled to an OCI Card holder, having lifelong validity with no requirement of registering with Foreigners Regional Registration Offices / Foreigners Registration Offices in India if their stay was exceeding 180 days. (ii) Government of India has also decided to dispense with âUâ (Universal) visa sticker on the foreign passport of OCI Card holders with immediate effect and to modify the OCI registration certificate in the form booklet to provide for the endorsement âVisa validity-Lifelongâ. However, it is advised that passport containing âUâ sticker may be carried with the new passport and OCI registration card, wherever it is possible. Immigration authorities in India have been advised NOT to insist on production of the foreign passport containing the âUâ visa sticker and to grant clearance based on production of the OCI Card only. I got clarification from Consulate officer. They suggest you to apply for OCI . Its free for PIO holders. You can apply after you come back from India. C & K says adter 06/18 : you need to pay | ||
