I would say the same for IIMs. Most of the value comes from the other students and not the institute or profs. Around 1/3rd of the profs are excellent, rest are junk. Obviously if the input students are top notch, then even the output will be of top quality. The institute plays little role in cutting a diamond in the rough. | ||

2 major dis-agreements... 1) 60-70% settling abroad is boothu...that was only for a short period of time in 1990s...ippudu max 30%. 2) 2000s nundi fees IITs are high...and govt spends a lot but most students don't feel that way...endukante most of the spending is wasted in administration bureaucracy and corruption. Most alunni prefer moving IITs out of govt control and get no funding. IITs lo students develop goods skills (technical and people skills)...but 90% comes from other students...faculty nundi use chaala takkuva. Most of the old faculty are useless....chaala worst behavior batch untaaru. So, most students (excepting in reservation candidates) don't feel any benefit out of govt spending so much. Recent faculty standards have improved a lot (at least at IIT Madras) because they have unofficially implemented a rule of hiring only people with IIT undergrad or US Phds (preferably people with both)...so kottha mostly manchi vallu unnaru. | ||
