High rises are hardly the reason for exploitation of resources - whether land or water...take a typical medium luxury apt project. Assuming around 5 acres land, that would have around 250-300 apts. That would translate to around 900 sq feet per household. On the contrary take a 30*40 sq feet plot on which 3 houses (and now even 4) are built or a 60*40 plot on which 6 houses are built. The sq. feet per household is 400 sq feet. only. So it is all the small plots which are just layered on with floors and given out on rent that are the bane. High rises are in fact more viable socially as it is easier for govt to deliver water, power and other utilities to concentrated households in 2-3 towers than 100s of small houses scattered everywhere. It is a well accepted fact of urban and town planning than high rises are actually better for town planning. | ||

Thats a good point. Hope people use metro more. But BTM layout is not going to get rid of traffic for sure  Its actually too many vehicles for a given set of people.
