They just gave it a shot thinking its ok even if receiver cannot make it . Pretty defensive play.

The only difference is the run would have scored.

i've listened from all three Russell, Darrell and Pete. Pete did not like the matchup to run on that play and just wanted to kill clock by that play and then return to lynch.
Russell also said the same thing essentially and took a chance. He is not expecting Butler to make that play and ack'ed he is thrown it an inch away than expected.
Darrelle was expecting Lockette(receiver) to play strong for the ball but that guy simply did not make a play at all. they did not want to leave the time on the clock and give the ball back to pats.

Tough loss man... Pete and Darrelle were over confident in thinking about wasting clock when they were not actually in lead. Should have simply scored and let the defense play the remaining 20sec odd.

Manning is the best example...See under what coaches he played.Dungy and Fox.
I never think of them as best coaches..they assemble good coaching staff. that's it..playcalling will never be great.
Always wonder how manning performs under good/great coaches. unfortunately, it doesn't work like that.
