Vivek's mind went blank.. He asked officers if he can use a restroom... he splashed some cold water on his face... and slowly came back to office toom. It took several more minutes for him to regain his senses Then clouds started to clear up He was able to connect the dots slowly With every passing minute he was able to connect the story more clearly.. Last few hours of events flashed through his mind Officers came back to room "Are you ready to talk now?" Vivek replied firmly "yes, officer" _________________________________________________________ Couple of hours later, Vivek got into a cab, gave the address to driver and tried relax.. It was one hell of a roller coaster ride for him all day.. Officer's voice still echoing in his ears "How can educated and smart guys like you fall into this kind of cliche tricks? Isn't it too obvious? I know you come from traditional and orthodox country like India but come on.. listen to yourself... be glad that you learned a lesson without getting into more serious trouble." Vivek opened his eyes with gentle touch on his shoulder again. But this it was not soft.. more firm. "MrVivek ?" an authoritative voice came from very near Vivek woke up and looked around.. he was confined a small 10x10 room with a table and 2 police officers He didn't know what happened or how he got there "Mr.Vivek?" officer asked again. "yesss" vivek answered in feeble voice.. he couldn't recognize his own voice.. One of the officer offered him some water.. It took almost 10 mins for Vivek to come to his senses completely. His first question was "Why am i here?" One of the officer asked "do you recognize this women?" Vivek was about to ask "yes, where is she?" but told himself to calm down and replied "yes, she was seated in the same row on the flight" ANother officer asked "Did you know her before? Did you meet her outside the airport?" Vivek replied "No, i just met her on the plane" Both the officers looked at each other and one of them turned on a laptop and started playing a recorded video There she was walking towards immigration counter holding my hand. Something was not right.. he was awake and walking but he was not himself.. he looked like he was sleep walking.. Officer skipped the video to instance where Vivek and Bella was at immigration desk. POE officer asked "Are you traveling together?".. Vivek answered "yes".. He asked her "why are you coming to America?" Bella replied "I got a job offer at his restaurant.. Officer asked "what is restaurant name?" she pulled out Vivek's business card from her bag and gave it to officer. Vivek was standing there silently witnessing the proceedings. He was looking at her but couldn't believe his eyes. He wanted to pinch himself to make sure it was true. Bella Mexicana apparently took off her coat and sitting in a tight tank top. He had to gather all his senses not to look anywhere except her eyes. As of that was not enough she was sitting in the seat next to him. He was not sure why she moved from aisle seat to middle. She was taping him because he didn't respond when she asked 'excuse me' twice.. she wanted to ask him something.. "Is it ok if i sit here?" He looked puzzled. She continued "My ipod ran out of charge.. there is only one outlet per row and my charging cable won't reach from the aisle seat.. so is it ok if i sit here and connect my ipod?" Vivek has no idea what to answer.. he was in a shock. what the hell is going on he thought? is it some kind of reality show? things are happening as if he wrote the script. He nodded his head horizontally and said yes in typical Indian style. He took off his headphones and decided to break the ice. Scripted or not, it came to this level.. and if i don't make the move then i might repent he thought. "Hi.. my name is Vivek" he introduced himself with a big smile. "My name is Isabella.. friends call me Bella" she introduced herself. Both of them talked for couple of hours as if they were school buddies and reuniting after years. Air hostess broke their conversation and asked if they wanted something to drink. Vivek said "Diet coke with some ice please" Bella looked at him surprisingly and asked for Tequila. AirHostess said that would be extra charge and she said that's fine. She was trying to reach her bag when Vivek said, "Don't worry, i got this" and extended his card Bella asked "are you sure? You don't have to.." Vivek replied "My pleasure.. don't worry abt it" Both said cheers to each other.. Vivek was feeling little awkward to drink diet coke while she was enjoying tequila shots. Damn, i should learn to be a social drinker at least he thought.. Not sure if it was tequila shots or because they have been talking for sometime now.. Bella was becoming more comfortable with Vivek. Laughing out loud for all silly things Vivek was saying and touching him in between as if it was accident.. Vivek was acting as if he was not paying attention.. As if it was not scripted to the T, flight started shaking a bit due to turbulence.. pilot announced seat belt signal. Bella "I hate this part.. i am shit scared of turbulence..." Vivek said to himself, enough of this.. let me ask this before she makes a move.. "Hold my hand.. it will be ok.. I fly a lot.. this is pretty common" said to reassure her.. Bella didn't think twice before holding his hands.. Turbulence stopped few mins but she didn't take her hand away.. After some time, plane started its final descent.. Vivek opened the window to see outside.. It was almost 7 pm and already dark.. but it was a beautiful sight brightly lit ny metro area on the horizon.. "Isn't it beautiful?" He asked Bella pointing towards window.. "Hmm. let me see.." she leaned over him and started looking outside the window.. "yes it is beautiful.." she echoed.. But didn't show any sign of getting up from him.. Vivek told himself, either this is a dream or she must have drugged me Strong perfume from her body was intoxicating.. he was losing his senses She was asking him something.. but he couldn't understand what she was saying "i didnt get you?" he said to her she said don't worry.. It took a min for Vivek's brain to process what he just heard. "Excuse me?" he said to confirm what he heard was true. "You have to go to Gate 29" she said "But boarding pass says gate 41" "There was a gate change and it was announce 10 mins ago due to some delays" He couldn't believe he didn't notice big tv at the gate that was showing "Now boarding SFO" He grabbed his bags and ran like hell towards gate number 29. 'that explains it' he said to himself about why he couldn't find her.. he was happy and tensed at the same time.. because he was not sure whether he can make it to his gate in time or not. Somehow he managed to reach the gate on time. He was the last one to board the plane. As he walked in to the place.. his heart started racing again.. he was walking one step at a time.. but his eyes were jumping far ahead and trying to scan all rows quickly Finally.. there she was.. sitting in a aisle seat but looking outside the window.. what a stunning beauty he thought. Vivek settled into his his just couple of rows before her. Flight was not full.. there were lot of empty seats and some empty rows.. but ironically, her row was full.. Vivek's row was empty.. But he know that he is no sharukh khan to make her come and sit in his row.. But he knew he had try.. but how? she may think he is crazy... and he doesn't believe in miracles... at least until then. Flight crew announced gate closure and going through safety instructions.. Vivek buckled his seat belt and closed his eyes.. "what was i even thinking?" Then it happened.. Since the flight was not full, people started moving into empty seats after gate was closed.. He opened his eyes to a sexy voice that said "excuse me?" He was stunned... there she was MsBella Mexicana.. he was in trance again.. forgot to even respond to her She asked again "Excuse me? Do you mind if i sit here?" "Yes yes.. i meant no, no problem.. u can sit" words were flowing out faster than this thoughts She thanked him and settled in a aisle seat.. Vivek sitting at the window. 10 mins passed. It felt like eternity. She was just 3 ft away from him.. 5 hours to go.. once in a life time opportunity to meet someone like her. His mind was racing and contemplating on how to break the ice. Another 10 mins passed. She closed her eyes and was listening to music.. But he couldn't muster up the courage to wake her up with a stupid ice breaking question.. he doesn't want to sound cliche He put on his headphones and leaned on the window and closed his eyes.. Another 20-30 mins passed... he was about to fall asleep... He felt a gentle touch on his shoulder.. he thought was dreaming.. but it happened again.. he slowly opened his eyes and turned his head.. he couldn't believe what he saw.. Vivek was still in a trance when he was jolted to reality by a passenger behind him called out "movimientooo" He moved few steps but looked back again.. She was asking security guy something in Spanish in a pleading voice.. he could manage to hear "newark.. new jersey... late".. security guy said something and gestured her to go ahead to counter directly.. Vivek suddenly screamed from the line "me too.. me too.. Newark, new jersey.." Then it happened.. She looked towards Vivek.. he looked at her.. She smiled.. he smiled back.. all this in fraction of a second and yet it was magical.. Vivek turned to security again and gestured "same flight.. that girl" Finally he was asked to go to counter directly.. By the time he reached counter.. she finished her check in and coming back.. they both came closer.. Vivek tried to recall what bell boy said when he tipped him.. and words came out automatically "muchaas gracias" She looked puzzled but smiled and left. Vivek was confused as to why she didn't acknowledge his thank you.... he thought he didn't prounce it right or may be bell boy said something else.... he was again brought back to reality by check in counter rep.. After few minutes he reached gate after going through security etc. His eyes looked for the mexican beauty in the seating area.. She was not there. He scanned the area casually again.. she was not there. He settled down in a chair close to cell phone charging station and tried to relax for a min. He though she must have gone to get something to eat or to use restroom.. Gate announced boarding.. Priority boarding, group 1, group 2, group 3... 90% of the people are already gone... she is no where to be seen. They called for last group. Still no trace of her.. Gate announced last call for the passengers.. He was the only one left in the waiting area. Where did she go? She was supposed to be on this flight.. he was sure he didn't miss anyone boarding in the line He finally gave up and started walking towards the boarding line.. he was looking back every other second.. where did she go? May be a dream short lived he thought.. Just then gate rep asked for "boarding pass and passport please" He handed over them and looked around one last time... No luck. "Mr.Vivek.. you are at the wrong gate..." said the rep Don't say you don't have enough time. Time 1:00 pm location - mexico city Vivek just checked out of the hotel and asked bell boy to call for a taxi.. bell boy asked something in mexican and Vivek couldn't understand what he was asking.. but at the end he caught a word "aeropuerto" ? He immediately said "Si Si" Bell boy loaded his bags in car and said "adios" Vivek reached into his pocket to tip him but he only found 200 and 500 bills. He was little hesitant to give 200 bill but then it struck him.. that was 200 pesos not dollars. So it was equivalent to 15-16 bucks. Bell boy was very happy for the tip and said "muchas gracias" Vivek couldn't wait to get on the plane quickly and reach home. He was feeling home sick just after 4 days trip. He went on many trips earlier but this one was very different.. Just then driver asked something in spanish.. Vivek replied "no espanol" Driver gestured his hands and pointed towards clock and said "time flight?" Vivek understood and replied "Tres o clock" recalling his daughter singing 123s in spanish at home Driver again said something again but Vivek only caught "bomb explosiono traffic".. he only understood what he meant when he reached the airport. There was a bomb/gas lealk explosion in one of the hospitals just 20-30 mins from the hotel area where he was staying.. so driver said lot of traffic because of that It took little over an hour to reach the airport. Vivek was slighly tensed because flight is about to leave in an hour and he has to checkin and go through international clearance etc. He almost ran through the long corridor to reach check in area.. there was long line. There is no way he can check in if he go through the line He looked around for self check in kiosks but there were none. He tried to ask the security if he can skip the line as he is running late.. but security person didn't understand what he was saying.. he starting walking towards line entrance.. And suddenly he heard some loud noise from behind and turned his head to see where did that come from.. Then he saw.. a young beautiful, super model like girl in her white top and blue denim.. she was trying to pick up the bags that she dropped while running.. she was half Spanish, half American.. looked like a cousin of Salma Hayek... she was visibly tensed, frustrated (for dropping bags) and yet looked very beautiful Vivek stood there watching in a trance.. he had no idea about what is going to happen in next 4-5 hours... 30,000 feet above the ground..
